Got this from a guy that went to the first double door show in 1995. Its the only known full performance of this song. He managed to record this song before he had to hide his gear to avoid getting caught.

I've put it online at http://www.machina2.cjb.net/v1/Tribute%20to%20Johnny.mp3

It sounds like they recruited Flea to play on that song for D'arcy, with all the popping and stuff. Sounds like there should be alot more screaming too, compared to the other nights.

I think the drumming gives it away as a really BAD cover. Or the horrible guitar solos... or the fact whoever is playing guitar can't stay in time. I'm sure any of those reasons could be used in proving this song bogus.

Woah, I never thought the Smashing Pumpkins could play that bad!
In other words:

This bad cover was a waste of bandith and HD space.

yeah I am with SomaWilt here...totally crappy fake. Where do I begin??? Ok, aside form the guitar player butchering the solos -and I'm not commenting on whether or not he tried to play the exact notes like Billy on the Zero single - the tone of the guitar is pure digital crap and would not be used by the Pumpkins gutar players....which reminds me....the Pumpkins have 2 guitar players....why does you're "Tribute to Johnny" only have one guitar player? Did James have to take a dump at that point in the show or something???? Ughhh, I'm tired of typing about this already, so in short, I'll close by saying the bass playing and drumming blew as well, and your version of the song should be changed to "Tribute to my Ass."

Oh, and if you think I don't know what I'm talking about and if it was so easy then why don't I do it better....go check out my band's webpage and download one of our songs. I can back my disses up with good music. Oh, google should help...we're called Session, and we're from Philadelphia. Peez.

for the record, i'm pretty sure they didn't play Tribute to Johnny at the 2/20/95 double door show. i met someone who was there. and he snagged the setlist.

I thought it was a pretty good job as a cover. But there's no way you could actually pass that off as live Pumpkins. http://www.netphoria.org/wwwboard/biggrin.gif Good job, though.
