I read on apple.com that the iPod can only operate up to 10,000 feet above sea level.

Environmental requirements
Operating temperature: 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C)
Non operating temperature: -4° to 113° F (-20° to 45° C)
Relative humidity: 5% to 95% noncondensing
Maximum operating altitude: 10,000 feet (3000 m)
Maximum operating altitude: 10,000 feet (3000 m)

My question is has anyone used one successfully on an airplane or will it not work? I'm flying to Bangkok and need an MP3 player that will work at 40K feet. Any suggestions?

I'm pretty sure that means in a natural air pressure - which an airplane does not have. An airplane monitors the pressure in the cabin (duh) so everything works and people don't instantly implode. You'll have no problems, I use my iRiver every time I travel.

That said, get an iRiver, not an iPod. More for the money (accessories, battery life, sound quality, etc.)
