I think overall Cool Edit is a much better program for a lot of reasons. First, the interface is much easier to work with for me. I don't actually use it for much than dumping to and then deleting portions, etc.

However, Cool Edit has some of the best sounding editing algorithms where as soundforge is generally agreed upon as not sounding as good. In the case of resampling, Cool Edit blows SoundForge out of the water.

My choice is CE.

Crap, normally I use SoundForge for resampling and Cool for editing. At least I hardly ever need to do that.

In my opinion (i will admit im not a taper, but i do an incredible amount of audio restoration) Cool Edit gives a more REAL sound where as Sound Forge is made for manipulating files and making them sound supposedly better. Like the groove options you get on Sony stereos, its supposed to run the sound differantly so that low-end recordings are made to sound a little better where as you actually lose quality on the better sounding programs. Play with both see how you get on I use Sound Forge all the time for certain things and Cool Edit for other things. I certainly think Sound Forge is better for transferring analogue!
