I'm really interested in getting a *good* quality MCIS era concert video. Can any independent party out there that has seen this video comment on its _quality_? (I checked spfc.org and it says it is an incomplete audience recording...)

Thanks!

This is a 8mm master transfer. You can't get any better than that unless its an official release.

AC3 the audio format most DVDs use.

I don't know much about DVDs, but is the AC3 format compressed and can it be converted to .wav?

ac3 is dolby digital. hence, it be compressed. i can't say that i'd agree with that decision ... regular pcm is (a) standard for dvds. ac3 can be decompressed to .wav, however.

That being said, I'm not interested in getting it anymore.

starlightvideoproductions: Also, just to satisfy my curiousity, why didn't you keep an uncompressed copy of the audio? Any master transferred to an uncompressed digital format is in the interest of most of the SP trading community(audio only), or at least the completists.

I would have, but I didn't make these. The guy with the master has the ability to make DVDs on a standalone dvd player. Standalones typically use AC3 since it is smaller than pcm.

As far as PCM being the choice of DVDs. Nope. PCM is only 2 channel. AC3 is the only 5 channel sound. If your dvd player like mine says what format it is in, most likely it is in Dolby Digital aka AC3.

And I'll edit how to pay, sorry http://www.netphoria.org/wwwboard/smile.gif

dvds must have either pcm or dolby audio. although multi-track ac3 is all great, i don't think it's necessary to have more than two tracks for an 8mm sourced dvd.

The guy had a stand-alone dvd recorder. I doubt there was much of a choice, either that or he normally uses it to burn copies of movie dvds and forgot to switch the setting.

dolby audio IS AC3! http://www.netphoria.org/wwwboard/smile.gif

And standalones, atleast this one, only burn in AC3.

I ordered the discs. I can rip the audio from the DVD and make SHNs if that's what people want.
