Yeah, both are fakes.

The second one also pops up on eBay at least once every week. Always the same seller. From Israel. Takes an new eBay account every now and then. Hmm...

Why would you want a Q101, there's nothing official about it, and it sounds shitty compared to the Virgin promo.

Cool As Ice Cream

For me the Q101 version is more official than that other one. And the artwork is a lot better.

But you're right. Why would anyone ever want that? Just download it, like you're supposed to.

It'd be nice if they'd put digital rips of the songs on I-tunes, rather than vinyl sourced versions that are circulating

I suspect they will. I think iTunes gives 30 second previews so you can check tomorrow. Assuming they're even on there.

they won't be going up this time. all the album songs that were supposed to be released are already on iTunes, as Dead reported in another thread. The tracklist for the 114 rarities has already been released, and there's no Machina II.

There were only about 4 albums on iTunes dude, they're supposed to be adding more. That's what the whole promotion is about. Unless the US iTunes has all the missing albums that Canada doesn't.

How do you account for 113 album songs without including Machina 2? I'm not sure it can be done. Remember that Pisces, Judas, TAFH, Earphoria all fall under the 114 rarities.

Gish
SD
MCIS
Adore
Machina
Machina 2
Untitled (not *******d in the rarities)

= only 99 songs...

If you add Rotten Apples and take out Untitled it comes to 114 songs. If you remove "17" (who would pay 99 cents for that?) it will be 113. Maybe that's it.............

I just searched using "smashing" and found the band's section on there, they actually have all 5 albums plus PI and Rotten Apples.

As far as I can remember none of the articles specified iTunes, they just said released in the digital domain or something as of April 5th.

Mellon Collie is $44.99! Adore $16.99! Outrageous. :noway:

the US store had the albums for a few days now, just not the rarities. and you Canadians are getting screwed on the prices. Mellon Collie is $19.99 and Adore is $12.99 here :p

I just found this article, it has details on where the tracks will be available:

April 5 marks the date that the entire Smashing Pumpkins catalog will be available in the digital domain for the first time. The band has been waiting and watching the regulation of digital music to ensure their fans receive proper access to the Pumpkins’ music in the most reliable and fair formats. The band has cranked out an impressive 227 songs in its 10-year existence. All the official album releases are here as well as 114 non-album tracks, including rare imports, long-out-of-print songs, obscure covers, soundtrack releases, vinyl-only B-sides and limited editions.

Smashing Pumpkins founder Billy Corgan worked closely with Virgin/EMI on this project (while simultaneously preparing to release his solo debut TheFutureEmbrace). The Smashing Pumpkins campaign extends to traditional retail, as well, with special CD-sale pricing on the band’s catalog for a limited time.

All major DSPs, including Apple iTunes, Real/Rhapsody, MusicMatch, Napster, Sony Connect, WalMart.com, MusicNet/AOL and MSN will generate customized visibility promotions for Smashing Pumpkins’ digital launch. In addition, previously unavailable live and concept video will drive promotions on major internet-service providers.

And this. There definitely have to be 113 non-bside/rarity tracks somehow.

As one of the pre-eminent alternative groups in history, the band's exhaustive output of 227 releases in 10 years shed light on both their enormous success as a cult favorite and mega-Platinum monster. All the official album releases are here in all their glory, as well as 114 non-album tracks, including rare imports, long out of print songs, obscure covers, soundtrack releases, vinyl only B-sides and limited editions. This assemblage creates a unique opportunity for fans to create their own track lists and settle long held debates about which songs deserved special album status, and which deserved B-side Siberia.

NilSineDeo

yeah, the MSN site is a bit fucked up. It only lists the first 99 songs, but it lets you listen to clips from those songs, which is a plus.

I've been keeping an eye on iTunes, but still nothing

Dead

I bet it wont come out anywhere today.

I found one quote, maybe they're just saying that SP produced 227 songs in their career, not that 227 will be available?

As one of the pre-eminent alternative groups in history, the band's prolific output of 227 songs in 10 years shed light on both their enormous success as a cult favorite and mega-platinum monster. All the official album releases are here in all their glory, as well as 114 non-album tracks, including rare imports, long out-of-print songs, obscure covers, soundtrack releases, vinyl only B-sides and limited editions.

Ehhh then again, that can't be right, this is from the same article/press release:

THE SMASHING PUMPKINS DIGITAL DEBUT:

227 SONGS PREMIERE ON WORLD CYBERSTAGE

VIRGIN/EMI AND BILLY CORGAN COLLABORATE ON LONG-AWAITED DIGITAL RELEASE OF THE SMASHING PUMPKINS CATALOG

113 SONGS FROM THEIR ALBUMS, 114 RARITIES & B-SIDES

Annoying, you'd think there would be more info out there before it was actually released. They did have the full list of 114 rarities tho.

The top one is the "Official Bootleg" from Q101; it's no fake. Remember BC gave one of the 25 vinyls to Q101 in Chicago. The station had it mastered to CD, made artwork, and gave it away to contest winners.

IT'S NOT A FAKE.

just cause some radio station put it together and called it official doesn't make it any less fake.

i'm not saying it's totally worthless, but it's also not really official.

c'mon guys. machina 2 is official if its burned on any cd, tape, whatever. because billy made us,(the fans), the record company. just like any cd in a store, there are master copies that the music spawned from. well the 25 or so vinyls or whatever are the masters for m2. we being the record company, have full reign of distribution of the music however we see fit "free online download per billy". if machina 2 is fake unless i have one of the ones billy gave out to distribute, then u2's album in the store is fake because i dont have the original masters. anybody agree here?

Okay, what the fuck?
Sorry I feel like swearing so much tonight... but what the fuck.

The Pumpkins did more than 227 songs. The b-sides and rarities don't have every single one. There's stuff such as the pre-Gish demos and Machina 2. It's dumb to say the Pumpkins did less than they truly did.

Bullocks, I say.

No. That's totally different. How can you say ripping original record releases and burning them on CDR is the same as a store-bought CD? Just because there are only 25 copies that were given out for free doesn't mean they aren't as valid an official release as a U2 CD.

douglas78
04-11-2005, 03:18 PM
i see what ur saying, but remember, billy himself isnt the record company.
the releasing of material of his own, is his original bootleg. he's not virgin. copies of bootlegs, are just bootlegs. remember what this whole thing he did with m2 was about?

Dead
04-11-2005, 04:44 PM
Billy released it independantly under his own label, Constantinople Records. That doesn't make it unoffical.

douglas78
04-11-2005, 08:27 PM
but is that just a make believe label? he certainly does not make money from it. nothing prevented him from putting a self-made label on the special copies. i believe that if that label isnt a legit money making, copywrited, patented, maintained label, then its just a bootleg from billy.

Dead
