Yesterday as part of a "cultural tour" of Chicago I ended up walking around the Field Museum (the one with Sue), and looking at the various stuffed animals, dinosaur bones, and what not.
Anyway, they have this "room of jade" - jade products from around the world. While I was in this little, out of the way room, I stopped dead in my tracks.
I found myself standing next to Corgan, who was looking at the same display. As far as i could tell, he was by himslef. I actually had the werewithall to tell him "I'm a big fan of your work"...not sure how I did that...and I added that "I'm excited to see what comes next."
He thanked me for the compliment and I told him I had just read (in the morning) about his plans for a tour, the tracklist, etc. He was surprised the interviews had made it to the web so fast. I actually got to talk to him for about 5 minutes - half about the Jade and my trip to chicago, half about music stuff...here's what i gathered from ur conversation, which seemed to rush by in a hurry.
On Jade:
-He collects little jade statues from Asian countries - his interest in the exhibit was to see some really old, ancient pieces.
-He thought that one particular statue, of a little dragon, looked exactly like one he keeps on display in his dining room
On Music:
-The tour WILL be him, solo, with just a guitar. he mentioned maybe playing keyboards from time to time or having some backing tracks (drum machine?) - he doesn't want to do the whole "band thing" this time
-The music is "not easily described" but defintely has guitars, electronic elements, and he mentioned that the Robert Smith song wouldn't be the only one with guests
-There will be a new website within a week. It's mostly done.
-The title, "TheFutureEmbrace" is meant to be taken literally - he is embracing the future, leaving the past (SP/Zwan) behind. He said the title is "Squished together" becuase it represents how quickly he feels time is going for him right now (at a furious pace)
After our brief conversation, we both headed out of the jade room and went our separate ways. My mind was buzzing the whole way home - I kept repeating "holy shit!" to my wife. I am more pumped about this album then ever!
