i was only slightly aware of him until now, but now i found 2 songs of him on a soundtrack and i really like these 2 songs.

so, what should i get first to get to know him musically?

get this first (it really has every essential cohen song from his 60/70s prime time)

don't bother with this piece of crap.
just get everything he's done between the 60s and 90s. his last two albums are makeout music for mom and dad.

pardon my ignorance, but didn't he write "hallelujah" that Jeff Buckley covered?

greatest hits is fantastic, although i generally dont like compilations this one is the just about the same comp of cohen songs i would pick off his albums up to that point. if you dont mind comps, go with that or his first album and work your way up as someone else suggested.

is dear heather any good/is it like ten new songs? i remember liking a few songs off ten new songs but not listening to it that much. i should dig that one out agian.

how bout field commander cohen? im a bit fussy about live albums so i didnt get that one, i generally prefer bootlegs....i didnt like the cohen live cd at all.

Get The Best Of/ Greatest Hits - if you like certain songs - get the album your favorites came from.

Sometimes he's visionary; sometimes he's not...
