i'm sorry, but music on the radio is, for the most part, bland, unoriginal crap. Unless its older stuff. There are, of course exceptions.

It IS on the radio for a reason, because it is what people want to hear, not something new or experimental.

The best way to describe music on mainstream radio is "safe". You're not going to hear anything that challenges the conventional mold of popular music, and you're not going to hear anything that hasn't been preapproved by multitudes of other people. From my experience, I can say that unless you're in a very large market, if you try to be different, you're not going to make it. For example, a couple years ago there was a station here that started playing bands like AFI (mainstream, I know, but a welcome departure from the Lynrd Skynrd/Black Sabbath/Nickelback/Three Doors Down rock stations we've been stuck with forever). They lasted about three months, and it's now an oldies station. Looks like satellite radio is the only solution.
