You're not going to hear anything that challenges the conventional mold of popular music, and you're not going to hear anything that hasn't been preapproved by multitudes of other people. From my experience, I can say that unless you're in a very large market, if you try to be different, you're not going to make it. For example, a couple years ago there was a station here that started playing bands like AFI (mainstream, I know, but a welcome departure from the Lynrd Skynrd/Black Sabbath/Nickelback/Three Doors Down rock stations we've been stuck with forever). They lasted about three months, and it's now an oldies station. Looks like satellite radio is the only solution.
