There are 1300+ bands playing SXSW and since most of them are from out of town most of them require hotels. The one I selected was actually pretty close because I didn't want to deal with parking downtown since parking will basically be non-existant. So my hotel is only a 5 minute cab ride from downtown. That was much more information than you requested.
