my friend and i are getting an apartment in july and she's creeped out by ferrets so i think we're going for a hedgehog. they're adorable and there's a breeder like ten minutes away from us. anyone have one? do you like it? suggestions? pricing? I emailed the breeder to get on the waiting list.

Fuck that. Hedgehogs are wild animals. Not pets.

My friend had 2 hedgehogs in the past. She liked them a lot.

One was named Tiny Tim because he had a gimp front paw/leg.

Sugar gliders are fun.... Crazy... but fun. haha

The idea of keeping a hedgehog as a pet is kinda bizarre to me. You can't even handle the things properly

they tend to be very shy and skittish. and they pee on people

and they smell, but ferrets smell too, so whatever..

they're adorable!

from what i gather from the websites about caring for them and stuff: they dont smell or have fleas, their pee is odorless, and they are very active and curious. when they get comfortable with you, they lay their quills down around you and will curl up and sleep on you. they like to lick things.

yeah i think it's a little rediculous to have something like a hedgehog for a pet. they're cute and all, but they seem much more like wild animals than pets. i don't like this recent trend of trying to domesticate anything remotely cute.

As far as I know, that's usually about the price for "exotic" animals. Ferrets used to cost that much too, but they're becoming cheaper as they've become more popular.

Why not get rats? Rats are nice, cheap, and easy to take care of.
