i'm debating between not having a home phone at all (cell only), having a home line with DSL, or having cable internet with my TV.
if you've gone without a home phone, does it work out for you?

DAMNIT. my poll is ruined :(
hmmm
oh yeah, my employer is paying the first $50 of my cell.... which would mean it would be entirely free if i had a home line (wouldn't be using it as much), or i could just pay any overages after $50 if i didn't have a home phone

I had a home phone in my current place until I realized that I didn't use it, only telemarketers called it, and it cost about $21/mo after fees even though i only had the most basic features
Just go with the cell. Oh, and if they're within $10 or so, cable internet > DSL

that's what i was looking for advicewise nimmy!
the cable plan is about 50 cheaper for the year, but i'm a bit worried about not having a land line (in case i'm on call at the hospital etc). its really a toss up at this point.

I had the same thought about missing calls, but it's worked out fine for me. Plus I never get telemarketers and I spend the $21 I save every month on alcohol for one lucky lady every month

if you've gone without a home phone, does it work out for you? i haven't had a home phone for nearly 5 years now and i don't miss it at all. what you might want to consider as an option is if your internet provider offers voice over ip. this is normally way cheaper than a normal landline. but as i said. i don't need not home phone
oh and yeah, i didn't read the other replies before posting, so if someone already cam up with the voip, good for you
