Don't move this to the politics board, please... everyone needs to be reminded.

Vote. Vote vote vote. Your vote could make a difference, and if you don't believe it, maybe you should start watching the news. It's going to be close.

And remember, this isn't just about the president... there's going to be a slot open on the Supreme Court really soon...

This will be my first time voting for anything ever. I'm going out to vote with my mom tomorrow and I'm very excited. I know a lot of people who are comprimising their faith with Ralph Nader to vote for Kerry... Normally I would agree with most people who say that it's not a good mentality, but I feel like this is a really important election and people NEED to vote Kerry, especially with how close of a race it is.

Yeah. I'm not a Nader supporter, but I normally wouldn't vote for one of the two parties ... but I'm swallowing my principles this year and voting for Kerry. As someone put it particularly well today, "Look, even Chomsky is supporting Kerry in this election." :p

So what? Even if it's not going to make a difference in the presidential election, don't you have congresspeople to vote for, or state and county ballot issues to make decisions on? Your vote actually does count on those things, especially the stuff that's limited to your county. And it's stuff that will more directly impact your life. That's the real reason to go vote.

And if you want to throw in an extra vote for Kerry while you're there, great. Or if it's not going to matter and you don't want to pick the lesser of two evils, then vote Nader or write in Jon Stewart or something. But for fuck's sake, go vote.

Come on. Women were imprisoned and tortured so you'd have the right to do it. It's so disrespectful to their fight and to the people around the world who think the right to vote is so important that they're willing to die for it, for you to have it, and to sit around at home like a spoiled baby and not use it, 'cause it's an inconvenient use of your time or you don't think it matters.

lol?!
dont you live in scotland anyway?
anyway, if you had surveyed the millions that died, they would probably be fighting for honest stand up type americans and conservativism. they would have hit you in the face if you told them they were fighting for gay marriage and the right to say shit on a kids show.

the freedom they were talking about was the freedom to choose what you thought was right, not what you knew was wrong but set your heart on

There's a write-in option. You can vote for anyone you want. You could vote for me. Or you could just leave that whole section blank. Also - contrary to popular and media impression - there are like ten different parties/candidates on the ballot to choose from, including Socialist, Green, Libertarian, etc. In fact, apparently there's even a Prohibition ticket still running. :p

And you don't have to select 'Yes' or 'No' on any particular issue - if there's one you don't feel informed enough about to vote on, you can just skip it. But they also have non-partisan governmental committees that put together a booklet with the full legal text of all the ballot issues, plus translation into English, and arguments both for and against - and they send a copy to everybody's house. And it takes like less than an hour to read through the whole thing. So if you aren't informed on even a basic enough level to make a decision, it's kind of your own damn fault.

Seriously, the issue isn't who you vote for, it's fucking getting out there and voting. Even if you go and vote for Mickey Mouse (and a lot of people do, every election), use what minimal political power you have to make yourself a presence with a voice. Not just a mute shadow who's letting other people make decisions for you.

I can understand not voting if you're an active anarchist, and your decision not to vote is a conscious protest against the existence of governments at all via a refusal to passively engage with a system you don't believe in. But unless you're willing to say to me that you consider all forms of government to be inherently corrupt and so you've chosen to actively work against democracy by not voting and by other means (and I have anarchist friends who do, and I don't get on their cases about voting. much.) - then fucking take responsibility and go participate in the system instead of just eating whatever you're spoonfed. Voting is the least you can do.

I'm not voting...and I'll say in here what I said in Slacker's thread:

I'm not voting either.

I have my reasons, and I'd rather not explain them...but its mostly due to the fact that I don't know enough to make an educated vote. Unfortunately, neither does most of this country...but they're still going to vote.

I hate people.

I don't think either one of those morons can help this country.

And elections make the general public act like even bigger assholes.

I also strongly disagree with all the people who say that everyone should vote. A lot of ignorant people are going to be voting today. People who base their decisions simply on how they were raised. People who base their decisions simply on who is more attractive. People who base their decisions on the opinions generated from the media. People who base their decisions on other people's opinions. People who don't necessarily vote for who they support, but rather the guy who's running against the man they DON'T support.

I think it's stupid that just anyone can make an ignorant vote like that, and just because I decided I didn't want to get strongly involved in it, I don't think I should be forced to make another one of those ignorant votes.

So fuck everyone who says I should go out and vote today.

...and as for "filling in a vote", that's stupid and there's no point to it...so let's just forget about that.

Ok fine, that being said I was questioning you why you haven't educated yourself and became informed. There was plenty of time to do this.

If it is a case of being too lazy or not giving a shit then I don't see how you complain about other ignorant voters. Even if you cast a protest vote for a third party you would be at least cancelling out one of those "ignorant" peoples votes. Isn't that at least worth it?

I would much rather be reading books on photography than reading about which candidate did this or lied about that, or supports this or doesn't support that.

In other words: I would much rather be spending my free time doing things that I enjoy rather than trying to find an unbiased source of information to learn about politicians I hate anyways.

I honestly don't care if we get Mickey Mouse in office because really, I think he'll do a better job than any scummy politician can.

And as for cancelling out someone else's vote...how does that work? If some dumb, media-driven soccor Mom goes out and votes for Bush, how does me voting for Christopher Walken cancel her out?

Deep down inside, I hope Bush loses. Because I hate him more than anyone else. However, that is not a reason for me to go out and vote for Kerry.

I voted at 7am this morning.

Or rather, i was in line at 7am. It took me about 30 minutes to get in there and vote. Thankfully, the fuck up with my registration card didn't cause a problem.

I saw my 7th grade teacher at the elementary school where I voted this morning.

My boyfriend just got back from voting too. Yay.

Early voting numbers have been GREAT here.
Dallas county: 28% of registered voters voted early
Tarrant county: 34%
Denton county: 36%
Collin county: 41%

It has me hopeful... but of course, Texas is going to Bush.

There's been a big stink today about ballots being already in the machines before polling places opened.. not early ballots..

and there have been a lot of problems with electronic voting. People are saying that some of them already have 200-500 votes in them, before polling began. Weeeeird.

The people that make the machines outwardly said that they want Bush to win. Has me a little scared.
