I haven't heard this album in many years, but I recall it being pretty weak

eyeboogers 10-21-2004, 05:02 PM Zwan "Mary star of the sea" (my favourite album of all time without comparison. It got better reviews than any other album i can think of every single newspaper and magazine worth taking seriously gave it four and five star reviews but sadly the insanely negative "fan" reaction (i.e "i'm too weak to have an opinion of my own, i better back up what the guy with 7000 posts on blamo just wrote.") seems to have shaped how the album is being remembered.
I_was_aborted 10-21-2004, 05:06 PM I'd have to say the latest Gomez album.
I haven't heard many talk about it but I enjoy it quite a bit.
CherubDaydream 10-21-2004, 05:24 PM Jewel - spirit

Maybe it's because the album kinda sucked. :p

Kinda?
That album was essentially a musical bowel movement.
eyeboogers 10-22-2004, 05:07 AM i think Mary star is simular in style and intent to "Rubber soul"/"Revolver" both of which i enjoy. if you not liking the album doesnt have anything to do with following the sp message board herd then please explain if Mary star of the sea is a "musical bowel movement" why all the positive reviews?? (the only negative one that i know of was pitchfork and hopefully nobody here are dumb enough to take those whiny 15 year old indie sluts seriously).

(the only negative one that i know of was pitchfork and hopefully nobody here are dumb enough to take those whiny 15 year old indie sluts seriously). You sure do assume everyone are followers here. The thing is fans don't portray a mass critisism just to be cool on the internet; they do it because that's truely what they feel. Concencius gentium... Honestly, the critics don't mean shit. It's up to each individual listener. And would you put more trust into fans who know, or some guy who listened to the album once and paid who-knows-how-much from an indie for a good review, if you know what I mean. Wink wink. Besides, Mary Star got some bad reviews (really bad, actually), you're choosing to ignore them. But as for the album...
Well, first off I think it is horribly mixed, the guitars sound indistinct for a 3-guitar band. Second, I think a lot of the songs are pretty week and rather contrived for Billy Corgan originals. Aside from Lyric, Honestly and the title track, the album is pretty schlocky. Heartsong and Come With Me are an embaressment! Third, the songs seem like cold and emotionless pop... It seems like Corgan tried way too hard a la Machina.
If you want Beatle-esque rock, Zwan is the wrong place... Try the Olivia Tremor Control album Dusk At Cubist Castle. Fuck man, *that's* the most under-rated album.

I agree. It's the Mellon Collie by The Cure (if that makes sense in your language).

I mean, the album wasn't horrible...I enjoyed a few songs from it but better than Revolver?

this could be a much better album if it weren't so long.
i get to a certain point in the album and i have to just turn it off. i lose interest. there's quite a bit of stuff that think would have been fine to not be on the album. i really hate 'hot hot hot', but there are others.

Go fuck yourself. I honestly don't care enough to prove any point concerning that mediocre album. It's a waste of my time.

Funky Fresh 10-24-2004, 12:44 AM Anything by the Sensational Alex Harvey Band.
No one can listen to "Next" and tell me that song is not a fucking masterpiece.
They are probably not underrated in review terms, but in sales terms they are.
