Raw Story (http://rawstory.com/) has received numerous e-mails suggesting that President Bush wore an earpiece during the Florida debate Thursday with Senator Kerry. While at this point the suggestion is simply rumor, the volume of emails and the demands of our readers required we at least post the information for public review.

The crux of the rumor centers around a part of the debate where President Bush says, “let me finish,” though neither Senator Kerry or moderator Jim Lehrer have moved to interrupt him. The video file can be seen here (http://publish.nyc.indymedia.org/newswire/rate/125456/%3C?php%20echo)

Pretty far fetched, but kind of entertaining nonetheless

it's certainly possible, and would be oh so funny if it was true.

I've heard this one and the one about Kerry bringing in notes, though it has been verified it was just a pen. I'd say even if he did have an earpiece, he's the president! There wouldn't be wires.

This is intriging to me only because when he said that "let me finish" I immediatley thought "whos he talking to? No one said anything".

<B>Kent:</B> That's game, set, and match to us. But the real winners here are Marge's hors d'oeuvres. <I>[eats one]</I>

<B>Homer:</B> Wow, how do you come up with such witty remarks?

<I>[close-up of Kent, showing that he wears the kind of earpiece that lets him talk with his news director. Cut to a news van in front of the Simpsons' house]</I>

<B>News Dir.:</B> <I>[to his assistant]</I> C'mon, c'mon, hurry up. <I>[the assistant types something, and hands it to the director] [reads paper]</I> I guess you could say, it's my racquet!

<I>[cut to the Simpsons' tennis court]</I>

<B>Kent:</B> I guess you could say, I'm Iraqi!

<B>Homer:</B> <I> [gasps]</I> Get off my property. . .

Same here. It didn't make any sense. Unless someone else was talking to him.

That is what the article implies.

You'd think he'd get a more competent person on the other end of that thing.

We don't get to see if Jim was getting ready to ask Kerry to respond.

He wasnt, when it happened either none of the lights had lit, or the green one had just barely lit, Bush had plenty of time left.

eh, that says that he screwed up at the 60 second mark, which was right when the green light comes on telling them they have thrity seconds left. So it makes sense he would have noticed it right at that time.

His aides are denying it. Now I'm really starting to think there's something to this. And i never even noticed the little box on his back before.

Wow. He has a crease in his jacket. Stop the presses.

Really now, this is just plain silly. If he was really wearing some sort of prompting device, there's be no reason for the wires to be visible through a suit jacket unless they were actually running up to his ear. If there was a wire running up to his ear, there'd be pictures of it. And even if it was some sort of wireless transmitter to an ear piece, there still would be much better ways to wear the transmitter where the wires would be not visible. (Not to mention the fact that if he was being prompted, one would have hoped Bush's performance would have been a whole hell of a lot better than it was.)

I don't see how this is anymore believable then the "Kerry's pen" BS that went around after the debate. At least in that case its proven that Kerry did violate debate rules. The only thing backing up these Bush claims are a fold in a jacket and the inarticulate nature of portions of Bush's debating. Why even give this crap the time of day? Its not like Bush even won or showed up well enough to even need to knock him down another peg.

No, they aren't looking for wires. It's the box shape on the small of his back. That is where the receiver would be that would then re-transmit the signal to the earpiece.

I've also heard, hearsay only, that c-span picked up a signal during the debate that was saying everything bush was saying.

He's the goddamn President of the United States and has the FBI, CIA, and Secret Service at his command. If he's going to cheat, he's going to find a hell of a lot better way of doing it then this.
