Maybe it's just me, but my perception of the song "personal jesus" is pro-Jesus, and pro-faith, however personal a view that is.
"Reach out and touch faith" is something I find very disconcerting coming out of the mouth of a self-proclaimed antichrist

Love manson, or hate him, I'm not asking about. What are your perceptions of that song? Isn't it really ill-fitting for him?

Depeche Mode weren't much of a pro-God band. Check out Blasphemous Rumors. Songs of Faith and Devotion sounds pretty sarcastic at parts, despite having a spiritual feel.

So no, I don't think it's a contradiction. "Reach out and touch faith!" ? You're taking that seriously?

And we only needed one Manson thread.

Not with Manson, and that's the problem.

I don't understand. It was sarcastic when DM did it, so what's making you think differently now?

Yeah, that's how I know the song.
Now, I don't know jack about DM, but unless they said the song is sarchastic, then we don't really know. My point is just that it sure doesn't seem sarcastic from manson, yet I know he doesn't mean anything in the song as pro-jesus.
POINT: Manson doing personal jesus is beond redundant and a waste, to the point of being really stupid

when i heard it for the first time, i was like 'wow its about time'.

it seems almost natural that manson should do a cover of personal jesus. its almost perfect. its not a reinventive cover or anything. its nothing that i wouldn't expect. which is probably why its so good.

even if depeche mode had meant it as a song about Jesus/faith, without a hint of sarcasm, thats the great thing about covering other peoples songs.

you can take a boombastic superficial-sounding song, and (depending on the lyrics/how you do it) turn it into something somber melodic and meaningful.

and i thought we were beyond calling manson the anti-christ? lol cmon now. what is this, 1997? are you a soccer mom?

The song is about phone sex, and the lonely people that call. That's why it was ballyhooed when Johhny Cash covered it - he meant the song to actually be about Jesus and faith.

No one else knows this?
