About 14,000.

I got a letter about a year ago from a long lost friend I had when I lived in Davis, and she's now going to a dance school in NY that's literally the size of my town. About 14 or 15,000 students.

when i was a kid, i had a weird preoccupation with populations.

whenever my family and i would drive through a town or city, i'd ask what it's population was.

No shit. I lived in Christchurch for 3 years until last year. I live in Hokitika now and spend weekends in Greymouth.

I thought all the other NZers here were North Islanders until now.

Cool. Fonzie is from Dunedin, IIRC. I think everyone else is from the North Island.

I'd like to go to the West Coast some time. Never really been over that side, except for a few trips to Fiordland and Milford Sound.

This is my second year in Christchurch (I'm at Uni) and I'm really enjoying it. It's a nice city: lots of trees, good public transportation, plenty to do.

This confuses me because I have no idea what metro NY and of course this is of great deal to me when it comes to a city's dick measuring contest because I read one book that had L.A's metro area ranked #1 with 16.3 million and NY at #2 with 14 million, but when I look at other surveys it has NY at #1 with 18 million. I tend to think of metro areas as continuous developed land uninterupted by rural area. When I was travelling up to NYC I recall seeing a lot of rural hills before going under a tunnel and ended up at Penn Station. So I'm not sure...east coast geography is completely foreign to me.

Yeah last year was my 3rd year at uni so now I'm living back on the coast. Yeah you should come over and check it out over here.
So you are flatting in the Ilam/Riccarton area?

What was your degree/major? I'm doing Astrophysics. I'm flatting in Upper Riccarton, literally out the back of the Bush Inn Shopping Centre. It's good: close to the shops/Pizza Hut, and less than 15 minutes walk from Uni.

San Antonio is around 1.1 million people not including the metro area population.
It's ranked 9th in the top 10 most populated American cities.

I did Microbiology/Biochem. My flat was in Centennial Avenue, over nearer to Riccarton mall.

Dallas: 3,646,000... but another one says 1,188,580. I guess counting all of the suburbs and crap its the 3.64 million.

Denton: 80, 537. I don't know if that *******s the college(s) students, because I can't see this town being that big withOUT the universities being counted.

according to the 2000 census, the city itself has:
197790

******* the suburbs (areas in surrounding counties, not within the city itself) and it's over 1mil.
