oh okay. i am 24 and i have had the internet for better than 10 years, and i've always known how to use it well but lately i've really fallen behind. i do not have slsk nor do i know where to find it or how to use it, and i also have no idea what a torrent is or what one would do with it. sometime soon i think i'm going to take a few hours to get myself up to speed on all this, and if the album isn't out by then maybe i'll pm you.

sorry about the late response-- no i have the promo (i work at a radio station) and its on there too. can anyone think of a legit phenomina that would cause that sound? otherwise, its time to start bitching.

the circulating mp3's almost certainly came from a promo like the one you have. i'm no expert, but i think it could have been an error just in the pressing of the promos, in which case it won't show up on the commercial pressings. that's my hopeful take on it.

9/10 times, promo's are copies of the album with the barcode crossed out. In this particular case, thats what is going on.

Both Epitaph and Dreamworks regularly release promos featuring completely different artwork than the actual released versions months prior to a release and it is highly possible that there is an error in the promo audio transfer which may be caught before the actual pressing.

Hmm-- I'm not quite sure what you're saying. You got the cardboard copy from Anti right? It had a booklet with scanned handwritten lyrics, a few pictures, and some other stuff written.

In other news-- I called Anti and the promo release is the commercial release, and there will be a blip on everyones copy... apparently no one else noticed it because this is the first they've heard about the problem.

How that happened is beyond me... they obviously need some quality control. But who can blame them-- they had 2 highly anticipated albums by 2 big shot artists (Tom Waits being the other) coming out within weeks of each other... I'm sure they were pressured for time.

i wouldn't have heard it if you hadn't said anything :p

now that i've got the album and have actually heard it, it doesn't sound like it could be what i was suggesting at all. :)
it doesn't even sound really out of place. all of those songs are pretty rough-edged, so it's not surprising stray noises weren't cleaned up.

by the way, this is a great album.
