Taped this (http://members.rogers.com/halteh/paristrain.mp3) last night 4 ft from the left stacks at the Phoenix night club in Toronto.

nice, but i always have the problem when beeing so close to the stack that

a) either i can't see anything on the stage, or my eyes are locked at a total right, or i got the sound only on one channel

and

b) that securities are very close to me, which makes me horribly nervous (in stealth situations)

so, how do you solve this problems

I have the mics propped in a hat. So like in last nights situation, i was on the left side meaning i'd have my head to the right the whole time. so what i did is turn my hat way to left, almost wore it sideways. Yeah I looked weird, but it helped keep the channels even.

Security was sorta close too, but i mean by just looking at me you can't tell I am taping. The only way I could really get caught is if I am checking my levels, which i did a ton last nite. But Since this was a small show there was no fence in the front, meaning no guards in front of me, just to the sides. I held the deck in my right hand for the whole show and moved it towards the front of me every now and then to check the levels. I used the other ppl around me as shields.

Hope that helps

Beth Orton man! She's playing LA in some venue on the 22nd and the Warfield as well. If you wanna see a good show I eurge you to go see her. It was one of the best shows i've ever seen. Definitely the best i've seen this year. Seven piece band too, the sound was awesome!

Edit: I meant the Warfield

Beth Orton man!</font> Good stuff. She's played Modesto several times, but I've never taken much initiative to check her out. She always gets rave reviews and people around here seem to dig her, which is partly why I dismissed giving her a listen. But based on that clip, I think I'll have to soon. http://www.netphoria.org/wwwboard/smile.gif

And she really sounds like Chris Shinn at times in that clip. weird.
