View Full Version : ITT we complain about Canada
RopeyLopey 09-20-2004, 02:15 PM some of their orders make no sense.
I just figured out my international driving licence is valid in Ontario only for 2 months since my arrival. After that, I have to get one that is issued by Ontario driving authority.
Now if you come from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Korea, Japan or UNITED KINGDOM and have driving experience for more than 2 years, you get the Ontario one without any fees and any additional exams.
However, since I come from different country, I have to go through vision test, road rules test and driving test. That means I have to shell out more than one hundred bucks.
Now, I have my driving licence for more than 7 years, my European driving licence is valid all over EU countries (including Germany and Austria) and yet I have to pay for something that other EU members get for free and without any exams. Including UNITED KINGDOM, where they drive on the other side of the road!
This just makes no sense. :(

I'm glad. I'm sure you're a fine driver, but I'm happy Ontario wants its own driving standards to apply to everyone driving in the province. It only makes sense, really.
Though you're right it sucks that you probably learned all the same shit as the other countries and your license isn't recognized. boo to paying $100 for that. you mean Ontario driving standards!?! that's a joke - 3/4 of your drivers over here (mainly Asian) would be kicked after first intersection while having to pass European driving test.
My point is that my current driving licence is valid in Germany, Austria, etc. , yet I have to pay ( to pass is not an issue) for something they get for free. There's no consistency.

The way it's supposed to be, shitty drivers don't pass their tests here.
I am all for that - I just want my Ontario driving licence for free - or the other ones should pay and go through the tests as well.
