Newspaper Says Moore Film Used Fake Front

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Filmmaker Michael Moore's Bush-basing documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11" apparently has upset more than Republicans.

The (Bloomington) Pantagraph newspaper in central Illinois has sent a letter to Moore and his production company, Lions Gate Entertainment Corp., asking Moore to apologize for using what the newspaper says was a doctored front page in the film, the paper reported Friday. It also is seeking compensatory damages of $1.

A scene early in the movie that shows newspaper headlines related to the legally contested presidential election of 2000 *******d a shot of The Pantagraph's Dec. 19, 2001, front page, with the prominent headline: "Latest Florida recount shows Gore won election." The paper later ran an article stating that the final recount showed Bush narrowly won the state.

The paper says that headline never appeared on that day. It appeared in a Dec. 5, 2001, edition, but the headline was not used on the front page. Instead, it was found in much smaller type above a letter to the editor, which the paper says reflects "only the opinions of the letter writer."

"If (Moore) wants to 'edit' The Pantagraph, he should apply for a copy-editing job," the paper said.

Lions Gate Entertainment did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment Friday.

HA. Big bucks, there!

Anyway, the paper should hire better lawyers. There is nothing legally wrong with that ... a judge will throw it out asap.

After reading Moore's response (http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/wackoattacko/) to the people who criticized Bowling for Columbine, I have to say it sounds like his facts are more reliable than anything in a newspaper. Which isn't saying much, but still.

I kind of like that actually. It makes it a legal lawsuit, but it shows that they're not just in it for a money grab.

On a related note, Peter "Puck" Pocklington, former owner of the Edmonton Oilers, once sold a large meat packing plant in Edmonton for one dollar. The catch was that the buyer had to take over the company's debts. :o

Really? It's still misrepresentation of a sort, especially if it wasn't used on the front page.

But the amount they're suing for makes it seem like they're just pointing something out rather than feeling wronged

while the story existed, it's bs that he used it that way. he should be sued.

still doesn't change the fact that bush is a dolt.

fool me once, shame, shame on.....

i respect joe scarborogh, who i think is a republican. he has to wince each time the dolt opens his yap and stupid comes out.

fortunately for us, he rarely speaks in public to comment on anything. and he will likely not debate kerry - shame on him.

Yep, Scarborough is a Repub. I love his show on MSNBC.

No, Bush will debate Kerry at least once and on primetime tv.
