I am likely going to establish a campaign and run for state representative in '06. I'm not bs'ing either.

Any tips, advice, etc. from those whose political opinions I care about and value?

Yes -- don't do it.

I'm serious, by the way. You need to be in the public eye or have a very, very dedicated group of supporters in order to be able to do these things.

Also, I would stop posting on Netphoria. Again, I'm being serious. People will find the skeletons in your closet, and webboarding isn't exactly private.

Yeah, Netphoria will fuck me. Me telling Geek USA she's a no-good Mexican won't help .. but fuck, I don't care.

I don't really want to be "in office." I want to be a behind-the-scenes guy, like what Dean does now or whatever.

Hell, I could be a speech writer if all else fails.

So basically you want to set yourself up into a position of power where you'll be a member of a Shadow Government, correct?

Not necessarily true for a state-level position. Just be sure that you have lived in the area for a substantial amount of time. If you are challenged in the primary and aren't well known, you'd be fucked. But, if running for an open seat and unchallenged in the primary, it would totally be possible.

I would recommend picking up How to Win a Local Election. It was written by a judge and is geared toward first time political candidates.

I was acting under the assumption that there would be a race. I can't imagine Texas politics aren't wildly heated, especially after DeLay's power grab. Then again, I'm just speculating, and if he got the right district ...

But yeah, Chris, if you do run, you should just put together a Netphorian staff. Samantha can run your campaign. I'll be your chief of staff, and Rhino can be your chief policy adviser. Your legal team's lined up, too. And there are legions of Netphorians who can canvass for you.

Dude. My campaign slogan could totally kick ass.

"White for the Job" :)

Yeah, mpp and Ace would kick the legal side. I'm scared if Rhino and I got together we would actually build gullags and inspire massive statues of each other in town "squares."

If I ran for state rep, I could serve for a while and eventuallly move to U.S. rep. I don't care much about the senate.
