Siva
Fuck You
By Starlight

Siva is a good song on Gish but live, it takes on a whole new dimension. More energy, heavier, more solos, longer quiet sections. Great stuff.

Fuck You sounds like it's straight from the pits of hell live. The performance on the Metro DVD is still awe-inspiring.

By Starlight is one of the best songs on MCIS but it has such a different feel live. More conventional guitar work and great soloing.

Interesting thread, I may contribute tomorrow, for I am tired.

Many will not agree, but I prefer the Machina era strummy To Sheila far more than the album version.

I like the extended ending to I Of The Mourning toward the last half of 2000 also. It was great.

I think the live Shame is better than album as well.

I guess I wasn't too tired to contribute afterall.

It was great how SP would have their songs evolve over the years, and even during the same year, so that there would be different versions of the same song. Most bands in my experience don't change a song at all for a live performance compared to the album version, let alone have it evolve over time. Coldplay comes to mind. Their live DVD is boring because it sounds like the CD.

I agree with these but not To Sheila. The UC version is my favorite of that song.

Yeah for some reason almost everyone hates that version of To Sheila... I find it way cooler than the album, which is slow and kind of drags on. I realize it's supposed to be like that, but I just started skipping it all the time. I would also skip Pug which I used to like a lot, and Tear. I prettymuch don't ever listen to Adore but I will sometimes go and play Behold! or Perfect. Sometimes Dusty. Oh and Ava still rocks.

i sort of disagree, because that's one of my favourite sp songs and it sucks live. the production on the album is just perfectly done for that track and he just cant really nail the vocals live. watch out for that long scream.

oh, and to answer the actual question of this thread:

everything by Z W A N

Heavy metal machine: rocked hard live, sucked on album. I like Nothing and everything (031689) way better live than the SP demo version.

most Zwan tracks sounded way better live.

i am one off course. the heaviness of the "see you" line on the lost tapes for example is incredible. it's so fucking violent, and then the quiet part in between... it's freaking me out.

Blue Skies Bring Tears on the Machina tour was one of their best songs all together... trippy, heavy, then amazing solos and break-neck speed! all the components of a great SP song. Plus within the American side of the tour, there were three or so versions (if I remember correctly).

others *******... Heavy Metal Machine (what happened when they recorded this?) and depending on the MOOD you're in... Blank Page, To Sheila and For Martha since on the Adore tour they were epic rock songs with overboard solos and more energy in the vocals. I will always cherish the Adore album versions, but these really hit deep when you hear a good quality boot.
