View Full Version : Man, polls are weird.
sawdust restaurants 07-26-2004, 06:26 PM Political Wire sources tell us the new Washington Post/ABC News poll coming out tonight will show President Bush moving ahead of John Kerry 48% to 46%. In addition, Bush's approval rating has moved to 50%.
Update: The poll analysis notes that "in virtually every measure tested, Kerry's public image has eroded in recent weeks. Kerry has lost his double-digit advantage over Bush as the candidate viewed by voters as more honest and more understanding of their problems. The president also is now seen by voters as the candidate who better reflects their values, and has increased his advantage as better able to keep the country safe and secure."
... but at the same time, a new Gallup poll shows Kerry up by 6 in Ohio, when he was behind by 5 only a few weeks ago?
Conclusion: Polls are weird.

He's right. Kerry needs to stop talking about Vietnam and focus on domestic issues.

jczeroman 07-27-2004, 10:11 AM I lost any sense of trust for polls and statistics a long time ago.
I_was_aborted 07-27-2004, 11:22 AM I don't think the polls represent all the voters that will turn out this election. I think the younger population and people who hardly ever vote will make or break this election.

yeah, i don't think polls serve more that a passing curiosity. on any given day, phone polls, computer polls, can only capture a small amount of people who may or may not actually vote anyway.
what would our elections really be like if we didn't live under polls, or be led by polls? i'd like to see candidates work themselves harder rather than play by the polls. i also think there should be fundraising limits of one million dollars, and that the networks could um, NOT charge the future president of the US for airtime. seriously, what's with that?
