C'mon netphoria. . . Don't let me down here! Someone say it!

Who's going to be the first to call them a Radiohead ripoff?

they're my 3rd/fourth favourite act ever. incredible music, just poor lyrics imo.

i think they're quite good, something like today's succesful progrock, but if you compare it with the real thing it's just... meh. the vocals are annoying after a while and the melodies often the same. put some cool guitar work in there man.

Great music and good singing, they'd probably be in my top 10-15 fave bands.

But damn, their latest video is the worst.

However they are awesome live. :o

Muse are fantastic.

Muse would be good.

If it didn't have a lead singer.

In fact. Muse with no singing would be the best.

Muse is pretentious and overrated. I have to give them some credit for creating a whole new cheasy prog-pop genre.
Don't even bother to reply with rants. I like tool.

edit: Oh, and that guy's voice hurts my ears too.

Muse is horrible. Damn whiney limeys. To be prog, a band, as a whole, has to be outstanding on their instruments. Obviously Muse does not fit the bill.

I'm no Muse fan or anything, but I think they can play their respective instruments better than you can dude. And where are you getting prog from?!

Prog, you know, a real progressive band like Gentle Giant or Yes.

I guarantee I can learn any Muse song in a few minutes. I could record one if somebody really felt compelled to challenge me. Maybe not a whole song but a challenging riff or passage, if such a thing existed in a Muse song.

It's one of my Favorite bands. It's too bad that 'Absolution' looks pretty much the same as 'Origin of Symmetry'. Although Origin of Symmetry is so much better. But C'mon, bad lyrics?? Ok, there are bands with much better lyrics, but I don't think the lyrics of Muse are bad. They are so fantastic, because of their great music. And Singing. Yeah, I just love that voice of Matthew Bellamy :)

Their first album is OK but everything I've heard since annoys me, usually lyrically or vocally. I don't hate them but they just come off as pretentious and annoying to me.

Rockin' Cherub

maybe they would be one of the best bands with some better drum work, clearer guitar riffs, more solos, another lead singer and more varying albums.

Learn the piano parts to 'Space Dementia'.

Touche. I did not specify guitar only. I suppose one could sweep pick the part on guitar, but I'm not to that level.

Call me crazy but that song sounded like a blatant Radiohead ripoff.

Yeah, but where are you getting 'Muse are prog' from?

Aren't you supposed to be working on the Bury Me solo anyway?

Rockin Cherub and MstrGhost both referred to Muse as a type of prog band.

I can't work out the last part of the "Bury Me" solo because I don't have a cat to throw on my guitar.

Hey buddy. Go ahead and record the solo note for note and I'll even host it for you. In fact, if you ever produce a single second of music, I'll host it. In fact, I'll host anyone's music really. I got tons of bandwidth and nothing to do with it.

Bury Me is not difficult, but the last part of the solo is totally indiscernible.

DeviousJ, at least I know the difference between harmonics and tremolo picking.

It's a little improvised legato lick in E major played low on the neck with a lot of open-string pull-offs, then a gradually bended E and pickscraping. It doesn't totally fit with the song, but I can hear it pretty well.

I still stand by my 'tremelo-picked harmonics' theory. I agree with you on the Isle challenge though

Not prog rock. Prog-pop! I was just being sarcastic, I called them prog just because they try to sound different and try to build some sound landscapes, but hell, I guess everyone one does and takes no credit for being prog even tough some exploit the limits of their instruments, so don't taky my post seriously. I guess I expressed well it's mood.

Sure. I suppose I could set up a general account where basically anyone could upload to an MP3 folder.

The harddrive my site was on died and now my admin passwords got all fucked up so I'll have to get off my lazy ass and bitch at my host sometime.

It's not harmonics. Fret the 17th fret (or 19? I can't play right now because my girlfriend is asleep.) on the high E.

A plug in baby is a partner who comes and goes at your own convenience. Much like me. Unfortunately.

But yeah, Muse lyrics aren't great.

I don't think it's harmonics, either. I'm pretty sure you can hear Billy slide a little bit above the interval when he first begins tremolo picking, and slides back down. You can't do that with harmonics. I also think it's the 20th fret on the high E.

Hey ZackZ, let me know when you have that mp3 hosting shit going. :O

Muse are good, although I wouldn't say they were "prog". God, that word is bandied about way too liberally
