View Full Version : Speed Kills appreciation post
bonsor 06-11-2004, 11:43 PM These appreciation posts are lame I know, but as much love as this song gets, I still don't think it's enough.
I love this song. I think it's one of the few Machina era tracks where this particular style of production actually works and brings out the best of the song. When I lsiten to it on headphones and that first chorus comes in, and that lead guitar line just cuts through and it feels like my skull is being unzipped. I like it. The alternate version is nice too.
Azael 06-12-2004, 12:06 AM Pretty much my favourite SP song ever, i love all the versions. They shoulda put the SIYL version on Judas, dammit.

Exactly. When I heard that song, the first thing that went through my head was "THIS is how Machina should've gone."
Mayfuck 06-12-2004, 01:32 AM I don't understand the praise for the studio versions of this song.
The Arising! Tour version of it is clearly superior. The solo in the last half of the song makes that performance. Then for some inexplicable reason they replaced it with a much weaker solo on the studio version. But its fantastic live.

RockLobster 06-12-2004, 10:56 AM <3 speed kills
sledge 06-12-2004, 03:22 PM I love Speed Kills, and along with SIYL it is among my favorite of the machina tracks (I or II).
I slightly prefer the Machina II version now, but it is always changing.
Fattening Ass 06-12-2004, 03:39 PM .
I'm voting 5 stars because it's a good song and it only has 4 stars.
dean moriaty 06-12-2004, 04:53 PM i'm voting 5 stars cause it's a good song and may be unstable at 5 if only deaddy's vote pushed it up that high

I totally agree!
When i first heard the Arising! version i instantly loved this song. I still like the studio version, but it doesn't quite compare.

The New 06-12-2004, 07:45 PM Can somebody recommend me a good Arising show version?

i gave the post only 4 stars because of that "one of the few Machina era tracks where this particular style of production actually works" crap. the song itself gets 5, of course!
if you are 06-13-2004, 12:14 AM it's a great song, but VANITY is better!

it's a great song, but THE CRYING TREE OF MERCURY is better!
Yes, I love pretty much every version of this song that I've heard. It's both sad and beautiful and it rocks hard on all the live versions. Listening to it makes my heart bleed.

i like it too
the only machine songs i don't like are S+P and impoding voice (the chorus is okay though)
if you are 06-13-2004, 08:50 AM off the top of my head, i think imploding voice is my least favorite. i like pretty much all the rest
xondria777 06-13-2004, 02:29 PM Speed Kills has always been my favorite pumpkins song. It's so beautiful and it has a nice sound to it. I love the guitar solo on the SIYL version. It's emotional and it's just a great song. I love it. I saw them play the arising version but that one didn't do much for me. The single b-side is better in my opinion. I can't say enough good things about this song.
oui henri 06-13-2004, 04:16 PM i like

The only one I don't like is The Imploding Voice. Blue Skies Bring Tears could really use some work too.

yeah, the imploding voice seems to be the only song that wouldn't be a better song, even if it had better production.
audiopumpkin10 06-14-2004, 02:11 PM I havent heard Machina II in such long time, but the sound of Vanity and Speed Kills is tempting me to do so again.........

YES, get the 4/15/99 Washington DC performance... this is BY far the best performance of that song IMO
sosnumculfer 06-14-2004, 05:46 PM i like both versions but the on with the rough production just rocks way harder and is a whole lot better
twilightfadez 06-14-2004, 06:44 PM this song fucking rules.
i ALWAYS get goose bumps when i hear it
twilightfadez 06-14-2004, 07:07 PM :( i'm sorry to hear that :(
