;) dude, the point is you're going to a festival to see all those bands....while here in LA a good number of those groups will play actual shows with better setlists, and often times in a small/intimate club.

just like the mars voltas 3 nights here @ the Wiltern.

1st don't tell me about the Wiltern shows, I've listened to the first and I am dying. DYING.

2nd it's different, just different. what I am talking about it's a festival with shitload of music and music lovers everywhere, in one of the coolest cities in the world, with gigs running from 6 pm all the way thru 6 am and even pas that.
it's fucking amazing, it's heaven, and read the bandlist.
it's a shock.
yeah they might cut the setlist by 2 or 3 songs (but some bands just play full sets, like Xiu Xiu and like will the headliners such as my beloved Primal Scream, Pixies ecc.
All this for less than 1 Euro per band.
I am sorry, but a pathetic single show in a pathetic shitty club in a pathetic usual night cannot compete.
no way, buddies

3rd don't tell me about the Wiltern shows, I've listened to the first and I am dying. DYING.

i've been to Coachella, Lolla, Area One, All Tommorow's Parties and a few smaller, one stage festivals. All big festivals where I have been had multiple stages. Never been a problem. If you're with people who want to see a band at another stage at the same time, just kill them.

Okay, so I've never been to a festival with THAT many stages :erm anyhow, the point wasn't that festivals suck. it was that here i'm able to attend festivals, as well as check out the band at some local gig...at various times throughout the year. eyesbomb is content with squishing them altogether into one great weekend.

Festivals aren't the same experience as concerts so you can't judge them as so. At the festivals I've been to I've had as much fun meeting people and camping as I have had watching the bands. Also I've been to a festival with 4 stages and one with 5 stages. It worked out great...not to many at each stage so you could get close enough to whoever you wanted to see. I love festivals but it is not the same type of experience as just a one night one band concert. Apples and oranges...

Going to a festival is like shopping at a chain grocery store, whereas a single show in a club is like shopping at a farmers' market or specialized store.

Sure you get the same thing at the big stores, but it's more expensive and more generic and doesn't last as long.

I_was_aborted
05-11-2004, 03:01 PM
You must go to some shitty festivals. The Bonnaroo festival has been excellent both years with little schedule problems, plenty of room, lots of great bands that play at least an hour set and good camping. I also checked out this years schedule and it looks as if I'll have no issues with who I'm going to go see. I can't wait, it'll be a blast.

you don't get the point, not even partly.

it's surely because in america the idea of festival (though there are some excellent exceptions like Coachella) is unknown

at most I'll catch 8/10 bands ?
makes me laugh, I catch always above the 8'% of the bands when I go at Festivals, and I can even catch bands playing at the same time (which by the way is an exception for this particulat upcoming festival, as smashingjj well said usually things are different, and you are able to see all) just by switching stage when I'm bored or whatever of some sets

by the way, what's really a bit -scary- or something of you is that you think that I only go to Fesyivals, when I've been to like 3000 club cigs in my life.
it's just that i can't ever get enough of music, and at a Festival I get an orgy of it

in short: you sir are wrong
