i've downloaded a couple of xvids and they have no sound. i understand xvid is just a video codec, but what are some common audio codecs used with xvid that i might need?

What container is it? Avi/ogm/mkv? If it's an ogm the audio is probably .ogg - you should have it, if not then try this one.

Actually download Gspot first and check the movie file with that - it will tell you what codecs are needed.

gspot says its ac3, but is unable to find a decoder for it. hmm. i'll go take a gander.

Ac3 comes with DVD software... I'm not sure but I don't think there's a free ac3 decoder for legal reasons, although I might be getting confused with something else there. Hold on
