Trust me. While everyone seems to focus on the Leafs/Senators (one-sided) rivalry, the Senators/Flyers rivalry is just beginning to boil. For the past two seasons, the Flyers have been eliminated by the Senators in the playoffs (and it would've happened again had the Senators advanced), and who can forget the last time the two teams played in the regular season they set a record for most penalty minutes in a single game.

Those two teams hate each other.

Not really. A&M is all over UT's jock, but considering the national championship goes through UT/OU now, the Longhorns care more about that game.

A&M is almost another afterthough. Besides, A&M/Texas Tech is one hell of a better rivalry right now than UT/A&M.

Remember, rivals have to compete. Lately, UT has dominated A&M.

A rivarly implies a relationship which both parties take seriously. This is one-sided. Oilers hate the Stars. Stars laugh at the Oilers. It's like when I use to wear a Cowboys jersey in Green Bay Packer country. I had no idea the two teams were even rivals (they're not), but I was usually verbally assaulted for wearing the jersey because the Packers hate the Cowboys for keeping them from the Super Bowl prior to 1996.
Anyway, there's the Georgia Tech-Georgia football rivarly. Then there's everything else.

You're so not a Stars fan if you think this is a rivarly. Our only legitimate rivals are Colorado (because we dominated during the Belfour era although they rape us now) and San Jose (because they're the only team to win the Pacific ever other than us).

The USC-Notre Dame rivarly is awesome because it is cross-continental and because it has total total hatred on the part of the students of each school. If you know a Trojan or Irish, you know what I mean. Plus it's cool how they only play in South Bend in October (or is it Septmber) and only play USC after Thanksgiving.

I wouldn't say the Sharks are a rival. I said the Oilers simply because we have played them so often in the playoffs in recent years and the series are usually fairly tough. I don't give a damn about the Oilers.

I'm glad someone else finally said USC v. ND though. They fucking hate each other.

i think most pro sports rivalries are kind of lame. They usually die out or start for some dumb reason.

The red wings/avalanche rivalry started when lemieux cross checked draper.

At the time it was bad, and everyone hated them, but now its not that big anymore. Its pretty much the same for most other teams, tensions always die after a few years. The only possible exception i can think of is Boston/New York in baseball.

But i think the "best" rivalries are usually any 2 instate colleges playing each other. I mean, sure, some other college rivalries are huge, like Michigan and OSU, but playing your instate rival is an entirely different thing, since alot of kids have their best friends at the other schools.

So anyways, im just going to say college football rivalries are the best, since most of them have been rooted for decades.

As a Sox fan, the only one I really care about is Sox/Yanks.

the only reason people reject the Yankees/Sox rivalry is because people are sick of hearing about it.

Whether or not the media is a whore to it or not, it still is the greatest rivalry in sports.

The best rivalries are college rivalries: Carolina/Duke, USC/UCLA, Auburn/'Bama. The only thing in professional sports that can compete with the passion college kids can bring year in and year out to those rivalries is Yanks/Sox.

well, the red sox sweeped my yanks... I'm frankly not worried though. most fans would be, but I'm a spoiled yankees fan and I know they'll be in the playoffs by the end of the year facing the red sox in the alcs. :o

not really 'best', cos it's partially-religiously motivated but when Glasgow Rangers and Glasgow Celtic play eachother in footie, the number of reported assaults across the whole of scotland increases an average of three-fold. that's pretty scary.

the rivalry i care most about is Everton vs Liverpool. fuckin red shite.

- Paris Saint Germain v Olympique Marseille (french soccer)

I don't even know where to begin describing the fans alone,
Just recently, PSG fans, during a match, tried to break in to the opposing stands and assault the oppositions fans. Marseille fans (which are a sight to see and hear, but you wouldn't want to be ten feet near the stadium) try to attack even the players when they're on a bad run. Poor Christophe Dugarry, an ex Marseille player, was nearly assaulted quite a few times by groups of fans- during training even (poor bastard). I just watched a video of a Marseille match where they were flinging the seats at the opposing fans and even threw a flare straight into the crowd! Luckily it hit at the feet of a group of huddled people trying to move. I'd watch OM matches just to see the crowds- as dangerous as it is, it's extremely fascinating, there's great celebratory singing too.

An example: This is something OM fans sing for PSG

http://willyz85.free.fr/mp3/oh%20parisiens.mp3

Oh Parisien, on va niquer ta mère !
Oh Parisien, on va tous vous tuer !
Allez, allez, Marseillais !
On va tous vous tuer, allez...

Sounds great, right? It translates to this! (according to altavista):

Parisien, one will screw your mother!
Oh Parisien, one all will kill you!
Go, go, Marseillais!
One all will kill you, go...

That's just one of many many OM songs (some are great and encouraging!)

- I am hoping for a nice France v England rivalry to start. The two times I've seem them play together in the past few years have been friendlies, how dissapointing, I absolutely cannot wait for the Euro 2004 match(/s?)

- Arsenal vs Man United of course.

- Real Madrid v Barcelona - great great match last week.

this is all soccer/football by the way.

If this is gonna raise your expectations a bit, I got to inform you Czech rep. lost 1 to 0 to Japan (!!!) yesterday with all stars in the line-up.Unfortunately I was watching that blasphemy. It's true we were testing some new strategies, but still the result is very sad.

i heard that, no a very good result. And Latvia played 0-0 home against Iceland. The Netherlands put up a good 2nd half and beat Greece 4-0 :D

The Netherlands put up a good 2nd half and beat Greece 4-0 :D the thing is we were trying 3-5-2 system and it didn't turn out well. The coach was also trying some new ways of dealing with standard situations, however the players looked a bit confused, too.
However, before EURO we are supposed to play among others against Bulgaria - I guess the result form this match will tell us much more.

However, there was at least one good thing about the match: Pavel Nedved brought here this little thing and everybody was free to see it on their own eyes :):
