Wilco Cancel Eight Tour Dates, Announce 24 Others

TicketMaster reps will be happy to transfer you to someone else who can transfer you to someone else

Ryan Schreiber reports:
Wilco have revealed that they are aborting their previously announced eight-date April U.S. tour, allowing frontman Jeff Tweedy more time in rehab to treat an addiction to pain medication. Tweedy was admitted to a Chicago-based rehabilitation facility earlier this month to treat his addiction to the pills, which he been taking to combat recurring migraine headaches. All dates of the tour, which was to serve as a sort of warm-up for a much larger tour promoting their upcoming full-length, A Ghost Is Born, have now been called off, including the band's May 1st performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California. Ticketholders may obtain refunds for any of these shows, excepting Coachella.

"Our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may cause," the band's official website reads. "We fully expect all dates after May 1 to go off as scheduled... See you out there soon... but just a little later than we'd hoped." Cancellations:

04-21 Columbia, MO - Blue Note
04-23 New Orleans, LA - Orpheum
04-24 Austin, TX - Stubb's BBQ
04-25 Austin, TX - Stubb's BBQ
04-27 Santa Fe, NM - Lensic Theatre
04-28 Flagstaff, AZ - Orpheum
04-29 Tucson, AZ - Rialto Theatre
05-01 Indio, CA - Coachella Festival

In the meantime, the band plans to make up for this sudden change of plans with an(other) extensive European tour, as well as U.S. dates in Pittsburgh, Poughkeepsie, D.C., and Manchester, TN. They'll kick off the newly announced 24-date stint on May 28th at Barcelona's Primavera Sound Festival, and hit the States on June 6th at the absolutely free Three Rivers Arts Festival in Pittsburgh. Alas, after just four shows, culminating with Tennessee's Bonnaroo Festival on June 11th, the band will head back overseas to hit various European festivals and venues. Dates:

05-28 Barcelona, Spain - Primavera Sound Festival
06-06 Pittsburgh, PA - Three Rivers Arts Festival
06-07 Poughkeepsie, NY - The Chance
06-09 Washington, DC - 9:30 Club
06-11 Manchester, TN - Bonnaroo Festival
06-20 Oslo, Norway - Norwegian Wood Festival
06-22 Birmingham, UK - Academy
06-23 Portsmouth, UK - Wedgewood Rooms
06-25 Somerset, UK - Glastonbury Festival
06-26 Hamburg, Germany - Hurricane Festival
06-27 Stuttgart, Germany - Southside Festival
06-29 Brescia, Italy - San Barnadinon Institute
06-30 Zurich, Switzerland - Volkshaus
07-01 Paris, France - La Maroquinerie
07-03 Bonn, Germany - Rheinkultur Festival
07-04 Werchter, Belgium - Rock Werchter Festival
07-06 Copenhagen, Denmark - Klub Vega
07-07 Gothenburg, Sweden - Tradgar Accelerator Festival
07-08 Stockholm, Sweden - Munchen Brewery Accelerator Festival
07-10 Weert, Holland - Bospop Festival
07-11 Dublin, Ireland - Oxegen Festival
07-13 Glasgow, Scotland - Queen Margaret Union
07-14 Manchester, UK - Academy
07-15 London, UK - Astoria

In other Wilco news, the band has begun streaming A Ghost Is Born over their website in its entirety, following what seems to be quickly becoming Wilco tradition: Yankee Hotel Foxtrot was also streamed prior to its official release in 2002. Just in case you forgot, A Ghost Is Born will hit stores June 22nd on Nonesuch.

Translation: Another bands singer has a drug addiction problem, most likely oxycontin if its rx medication, otherwise heroin or coke. He is unable to play because he isn't as hardcore as Cobain, Layne or Mr. Weiland so the shows have been cancelled. Hopefully he will overdose soon and we will not have to hear any new Wilco music. Sadly enough his death will not erase the past Wilco albums, so some damage is already done.

Right just like Courtney Love has prescriptions for the pills she was busted with. Also I'm not a big fan of STP or Alice in Chains but I would take them over Wilco anyday. Wilco is boring and pretty damn crappy live too.

Sorry I just saw them live and it was a joke. Also not to mention even though it sounded horrible and was a shitty performance the crowd still thought it was a "mind blowing show". Silly indie kids.

edit: I've heard a couple of their albums too and can only stand to listen to like 3 songs.
