Losing your midterm paper because the computer freezes on the last paragraph really, really sucks. Especially when it's the morning of your class and you didn't sleep because you were doing homework. Dammit. I just thought I'd share.

Doesn't matter, I hate the terms "should have", "could have", and "would have" because they're stupid and useless.

It was a comparison report on the various types of knitwear in high end fashion. To learn how it was lost, refer to the original post.

haha. well if it's any consolation, you don't have to worry because knit-wear is OUT. spandex and leather are in.

Not really, because that has nothing to do with my grade. And knitwear will never be out, because it is not confined to the sweater market.

How much time do you have to re-write it?

I have no clue why you wouldn't save your work regularly. Computers crash all the time - especially when you really need them not to, it's Murphy's Law. You should always make a habit of saving every 5-10 minutes or after every paragraph. I mean, common, it takes two seconds to do CTRL-S with your left hand, you don't even notice you're doing it anymore after the first few times.

so have you set up word to auto-save every 5 minutes yet?

that happened to me once. i saved it, but it didn't help. my whole paper vanished, right before my eyes.
then i was an hour late to the final because i was trying to restore it. it sucked :p

Because I don't write papers regularly, so I'm not used to saving my work regularly. My style is to leave it until the last moment, and then furiously type it all out in one session without stopping.
Now, would anyone else like to tell me to save? Y'know, even though I've already rewritten the paper, and even though it's already been said about five times already, and it's really pointless because it's like telling a drunk man that he's drank too much while he's puking his guts out. Let's try something original this time, why don't you tell me I should put plastic wrap over spaghetti when microwaving it, or how about telling me to use oven mitts when I'm touching hot stuff.
