Recent Machina-related discussions here got me to listening to Machina-era songs again for the first time in a while, and several points came to mind. First, a third of Machina is either irritating or just not very good. Second, the two Machina-era b-sides are excellent and should have been on the album.

I decided to delete five songs from Machina, add the two b-sides, and revise the order of the songs somewhat. Here is what I came up with:

Everlasting Gaze
Imploding Voice
Stand Inside Your Love
I of the Mourning
This Time
Try Try Try
With Every Light
Age of Innocense
Here's to the Atom Bomb
Crying Tree of Mercury
Blue Skies Bring Tears
Speed Kills

I like this Machina a lot better. :D

What, no one wants to bitch about leaving off Raindrops and Sunshowers?

It's common knowledge that Imploding Voice, Crying Tree, and Blue Skies are the three most hated songs on Machina according to Netphoria. Up until recently, I concurred with this view. No more. Those songs are good.

The two main guitar riffs in Imploding Voice are insanely catchy, and the layering of guitars and synths in that song is awesome. The vocals in Crying Tree exhibit some real emotional depth, and the guitar solo at the end is sweet. Blue Skies features some great lyrics and some really interesting guitar tones (from high-pitched squealing to low-end sludge).

Sacred and Profane and Heavy Metal Machine are musically boring, and I don't like the lyrics. Glass and the Ghost Children is cool until the recorded bit, but the rest of the pretentious crap that follows kills it. The vocals on Wound are screechingly atrocious and render the song unlistenable to me.

I love Raindrops and Sunshowers, it's just overshadowed by all of the other songs around it. The rest of those songs were unfairly dropped in my opinion.

The only song on Machina I really don't like is The Imploding Voice, I find it just plain annoying.

I don't dislike this song but I never really liked it either. I have no feelings about it, but I have various feelings about every other song. I wonder what that's all about.

Am I the only person who really likes Blue Skies Bring Tears?

I dislike Imploding Voice & S&P though.

Actually now that you mention it, R+S is a nice song, but I know what you mean about not having feelings about it. I do like it though, that's for sure.

Am I the only one who really loves The Sacred and Profane?

most of you are borderline retarded. the crying tree song is the best song on the album (not being sarcastic in the slightest). i agree with some people who have said some songs on machina sound like early pumpkins tunes, only without a soul. this song is not one of them. i of the mourning is the worst song on the album... definately billy's most desperate attempt at former glory
