According to the various SP pages Billy has used three Strats: His '57 Strat and his two '74's. But I have seen him pictured with many different Strats including the ones below:

Can anyone explain? Thanks.

They were used for backups/different tunings.
I dunno what model they are but most likely USA made. (I'm guessing '57 reissues)

Whoah! Bolly must've been well expensive. If just one '57 Reissue model costs nearly $1.5 grand, imagine how much it would've costed to buy all them other '57 reissues PLUS the mods.

$1.5 grand probably isn't that much for Billy.

But note how earlier on in their career when Billy was probably not very rich he used these guitars.

On vieuphoria I think he broke a USA Standard at the end because he didn't like the tone.

I have no idea, but I guess that if that person would have seen Wes' design, he'd go pale.

Most of the decorating is certainly not done by a professional (as you can tell it's just different stickers, craft paints, markers, etc. on top of the original coat) and I highly suspect that a bored Billy did most of the work himself...unless he let James, former Loyola university graphics art student (he was mostly responsible for painting the psychedelic designs on the Lull EP), have at it.

And many of the guitars you see people like Billy smash are just low-end cheapo's and/or something they bought for a song at a pawn shop. Playing guitar was basically the largest part of Billy's life since he was in his mid-teens...so he's had quite a bit of time to acquire guitars (and perhaps vintage guitars weren't as sought-after as they are now when he bought them, or he was just lucky enough to have found some real treasures at the charity shops) and being a dedicated musician, he probably poured a fair amount of money into the type of equipment that he wanted, even when he didn't have a whole lot of it to go around.
