View Full Version : I have to give an 8-10 minute persuasive speach
ravenguy2000 11-24-2003, 01:07 PM Soon. Next week. I don't want to do anything obvious or predicatable, mainly because I go to community college and I'm worried that I'm going to have to sit through 3 days worth of speaches about abortion and the death penalty.
I need suggestions. Any reccomendations about taking it up the ass or being fat are being duly noted as hilarious and insightful in advance.
2Marlon2Brando 11-24-2003, 01:12 PM I had to give two persuasive speeches as well, and was faced with the problem of keeping it entertaining and not being similar to all the other speeches.
I chose:
Why you should never take PCP. Extremely easy to argue, and the tales of what people do under the influence are always shocking/funny/entertaining.
I chose to argue that Flight 93 was shot down by the U.S. Government. I don't believe that, it was just something controversial, and something that no one had done before. There was a lot of information about conspiracy theories and my speech was really entertaining.
Victor_Mancini 11-24-2003, 01:13 PM how about jfk?
ravenguy2000 11-24-2003, 01:14 PM Yeah, I'm thinking about doing something like how shoplifting benefits society but I'm not sure if I can fill 8 minutes with that.

Really, seems like that would be easy to fill.
Victor_Mancini 11-24-2003, 01:17 PM in that case, how about how 40oz. beers are a better value.

You can't fill eight minutes with that.

8 minutes is just a really long time. I've found that at the rate I talk, a 2 page typed paper ends up being only about 4 minutes.
I think I may be able to do it, though. i'm looking at some research now. meh. i still need suggestions.
I have to do one too, but only 5-7...it was originally 7-9, but he said he didn't care to listen to us talk for that long so he changed it. My speech is tonight and I am doing it over why not to drink and drive, and it sucks. It sounds more informational than persuasive :(
- the american education system is biased and unfairly discriminates against lower-income children thus barring the majority from higher education.
i just did a paper on that one... if you decide to use it read Savage Inequalities by Johnathan Kozol.
dusty 11-24-2003, 04:59 PM i did a french presentation this morning.

I can't help you.
Eulogy 11-24-2003, 06:09 PM 8 minutes is nothing. You'll get it without any trouble. Even if you think you might not. I mean...last week I went up with the intention of giving a 6-minute speech and stayed there for about 15 minutes.
Just read a bunch of crap on your topic, write it down...read it back to yourself a bunch of times....but don't bring any notes up with you. Just make sure you know about your topic, and then talk about it.
As for a topic, I don't have one. This friend of mine did a persuasive speech on why people should believe in alien abductions or something and got the only A she received all year. I dunno what she said about it though. heh.

Nah, I don't think so. She's got all kinds of crazy ideas in her head....she wouldn't take something like that.
Eulogy 11-24-2003, 06:19 PM On a totally unrelated note, this friend recently made a Matrix-type fight scene flip book, and it was the single coolest thing I have ever seen.
BlueStar 11-24-2003, 06:57 PM One of my friends once did a persuasive speech on why Elvis Presley is still alive.
