I actually went to The Apple Market later. Ihaman 10-13-2003, 04:35 AM I really ought to let fat screaming old people have such a large impact on me. Nimrod's Son 10-13-2003, 04:38 AM Yeah, I just go in anyway. These grocery workers strike at all grocery stores and then expect me to go to the one or two stores in the entire county along with everyone else? Fuck that. Let them settle their disputes. Or don't. You know, it really isn't any of my fucking business. I'll shop where I want. Eve 10-13-2003, 04:38 AM i'm pissed. the schnuck's closes at 8pm now. wtf, it was 24 hours before. i won't go anywhere else though b/c schnuck's is a block away. there's nowhere else to go anyway besides the super expensive natural food stores. crescentfresh 10-13-2003, 07:49 AM I was going to go to Vons, but I just ended up going to Henry's because i felt bad. it took me 15 minutes to wait for a place to park. Then it took me 45 minutes to get $30 in food and I waited 15 minutes in line. Rediculous. I'm not doing that again. Jacobian 10-13-2003, 07:57 AM Fucking grocery clerks whining because they earn $17.50/hr. That shit makes me ill. My g/f makes only $14/hr.. and she has a degree. Fuck those greedy bastards. sppunk 10-13-2003, 07:58 AM Gee, the Albertson's next door is open, as is the Central Market. Oh, and the Kroger, Brookshire's and Tom Thumb. They're hiring now. crescentfresh 10-13-2003, 08:09 AM Originally posted by sppunk Gee, the Albertson's next door is open, as is the Central Market. Oh, and the Kroger, Brookshire's and Tom Thumb. Oh, there's Stater Bros. in Temecula, or the one Food4Less in Mission Valley, but everyone is being sent to the Mission Valley Food4Less by the strikers. Besides, I don't care about the plight of the guy that bags my groceries. It's none of my business, I don't know if they are just to strike or if they want too much. I don't have the details and I don't care. I'll shop where I normally do. Maybe this is a good thing. sppunk 10-13-2003, 08:16 AM Originally posted by crescentfresh Von's, Ralphs and Albertsons are all on strike. besides the organic stores, I don't know of anything else. Yeah, I just put that story on the page. Stores in three other states - West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio - are also now on strike. sppunk 10-13-2003, 08:18 AM Originally posted by Nimrod's Son Also, you do realize that we don't have Kroger, Central Market, Brookshire or Tom fucking Thumb in CA, dontcha, chachi? Kroger Co. owns Ralph's. Central Market is a chain operated by HEB, but I doubt you all have those either. They're owned by Mexicans that live in Brownsville, Texas. Nimrod's Son 10-13-2003, 08:33 AM They make more than teachers in SD County, and they're on strike. The problem is that they think that what they have should be a high paying career. If you're a fucking cashier for 20 years, you're still replaceable. Your job is to scan products and give back the change thatthe register tells you to give. Sorry, you shouldn't make more than a skilled worker at another job when the hardest part of your day involves either a price check or finding the UPC on a label. crescentfresh 10-13-2003, 08:56 AM Originally posted by Mason R Butler :O shut up. SuckSuckStyle 10-13-2003, 11:09 AM there are so many grocery stores in my area, it's rediculous. raley's and safeway back up to eachother, literally, they share a parkinglot, and directly across the street from safeway, is albertsons, and down the street form that is food4less. I <3 raley's it reminds me of home. but i dont know what's open or not, i havent gone grocery shopping in ages. Strange As Angels 10-13-2003, 12:58 PM Originally posted by Toast Scab! Eh? From what I read in the papers they're not striking because of their wage, but because the corporations they work for are proposing to take severe cuts to their health coverage or whatever. Do they really make $14/hr? I really really doubt that. I essentially do the same thing at Target for 8 dollars an hour. Mayfuck 10-13-2003, 01:24 PM Gigante seems to be operating without a hitch though. Connecticut has some of the highest wages in the country and my next door neighbor who drives a school van doesn't make $14 an hour. Cashiers make at least 17. Over the course of many years, some of them have gone up to 30. They also get overtime up to 2x on sundays and holidays. And health coverage. OH NO... now they only get HALF COVERAGE!!!!1 I know this because I now work in a vacated slot. Hoping it goes on for a very. very. long time. THRILLHO 10-14-2003, 01:13 PM what the fuck? i was a grocery clerk for a few years and never made more than $10cdn/hr. i know my managers were making about $15cdn/hr. safeway workers went on strike because they were getting bare min. wage at a maximum of 20 hours a week and didn't want to get worse than that. again, what the fuck? lucky_13 10-14-2003, 01:29 PM Originally posted by Kumar Littlejeans Cashiers make at least 17. Mason R Butler 10-14-2003, 01:45 PM You must be fucking kidding. $14 an hour to be a clerk? Jesus Christ. What do they make at McDonald's? That's a much tougher job. Which safeway workers are you speaking of here? Canadian ones? The ones yonder are unionized, and if you heard this about them, you're being lied to. Which wouldn't be too far fetched, seeing as the folk outside my store have been telling people we have no idea what we're doing in there (their job can be learned in less than two hours) or everything inside is 50% off. All while managing to berate an old woman in a cart today. I'd probably feel a little bit bad about scabbing if I didn't know how easy this work is in relation to the ridiculous amount they get paid. And the benefit situation? Its being cut to 50% coverage from a former 100%. Who the hell gets benefits anymore these days at this level of employment? Point B - Airline workers also got their benefits cut 50% in the name of business within the last couple years and I didn't see anyone picketing there. Mayfuck 10-14-2003, 03:17 PM Fuck you nimz!
