Isn't it Labor Day or some shit today?

Yeah, Labor Day.

Which is ironic considering how overworked American laborers are compared to their counterparts elsewhere. Even Chinese workers get more vacation days than Americans. And U.S. productivity has doubled since the 1950s, so in theory we could keep our affluence at Fifties levels and the average work week only would have to be 20 hours, but the average worker pulls something like 50. I guess that's not inherently good or bad, and perhaps even an economic necessity in this age of global competition (though I don't really buy that), but the idea of "rewarding" the worker on one day when things are so crazy for the other 364 is bizarre and I daresay outdated.
