what? are you talking about the random feedback in the outro? i wouldn't consider that much of a solo. the ad lib feedback in TOASE seems more solo-like to me, the XYU feedback doesn't tend to lend itself into a very solo-like vibe.

I would have Cherub Rock higher. It fits the song very well and is a great solo.

I like the Cherub Rock solo, but I guess I *stupidly, I know, esp. as a guitarist myself* rate solos by how fast and dextrous the playing is, that impresses me, so that is why Quiet and Geek USA and such are so high. It's just my opinion on solos. I love Billy's guitar playing, that is easily my fave part of the Pumpkins sound (esp. the fuzz buzz they used on Siamese and never topped, IMO), and it is what drew me to them in the first place...the thick layers of noise, the lush production, etc.

oh, so you're one of those people who likes jerking off on the guitar over whether it sounds nice.

I would if it was a brand new solo, SP usually totally redid cover songs so that all the parts were prettymuch new.

umm... okay. let me explain why you don't make any sense at all.

first of all, rating a guitar player's solos by how fast and dextrous the playing is, as opposed to how well it fits the song, is completely illogical. if that were the way we all rated guitar players, than i'd have to say that my old guitar teacher is WAY the fuck better than billy is at playing the guitar. if you asked the two of them to battle it out playing scales as fast as they could... my guitar teacher would have schooled him. but, in my opinion, billy is still a better guitar player, for a few reasons. one being his ability write solos that fit his songs, and two, being the emotional feel in his playing. the cherub rock guitar solo is probably recognized as one of the best guitar solos billy has ever written, and rightfully so. why do you think the eagles' 'hotel california' solo is known as like the best guitar solo ever. do you think it's hard to play? not at all. it's quite easy, actually... but it's an amazingly written solo.

another reason why you don't make any sense at all, is because if your list IS in fact compiled based on the reasons you've stated above... than the order of your favorite guitar solos is wrong. you listed 'quiet' as number TWO on your list, and 'drown' as number THREE. than, you preceded to place 'fuck you (an ode to no one)' as number TWENTY-SEVEN!!! how the fuck does that make any sense? i learned how to play both the 'quiet' and 'drown' solos after playing the guitar for only a few years. they are very, very simple. if you asked me to play you the 'fuck you' solo, i'd say "i can't." than, if you asked why, i'd reply with "because it's hard."

so, basically, the order of which you rated billy's guitar solos doesn't really make any sense, going by ANY method of rating a guitar solo other than personal preferance, and personal preferance only.

point. set. match.
