Yes bitches, time to appreciate Convertino and Burns. Calexico has made some stunning music over the years, with The black light and feast of wire as the highlights. But Spoke and Hot rail are quite excellent as well.

Gotta love those laidback instrumentals, biting trumpet solos and powerfull sung tracks.

I should check out the live disc and other stuff as well.

They're great live too - a really good show. For one of the encores the support act girl came on with them and they played one of her rock songs, which was different

I was turned off by them at first because they seemed kinda wanky, but then Lee sent me "Black Heart" and then gave me copies of Feast Of Wire and Hot Rail and I really enjoyed them.

Yeah, Feast of Wire is great.

If you guys like Calexico, you should check out Jenny Toomey's record from last year, Tempting. Franklin Bruno wrote all the songs and Calexico is basically her backing band, and even though there's a pretty good variety in the territory they cover, most of them wind up sounding like (a very good) Calexico.

I saw them opening for Spoon...they were really good, very entertaining, though not the kind of thing I'd listen to on a regular basis.
