View Full Version : Fuck Mixtape romanticism Mason R Butler 08-07-2003, 06:21 PM I am sick and tired of the image of making a mixtape for someone becoming something huge and meaningful. Please discuss. shaniqua 08-07-2003, 06:25 PM it's not necessarily meaningful, but it's a nice thing to give/receive. np- new order 'perfect kiss' Nothing/everything 08-07-2003, 06:27 PM the only mix that ever worked out was the Belle and sebastian mix i made for my sister. But most of the time the get listened to once, and are left to collect dust. Personally i really dislike listening to mixtapes/cds. I prefer listening to entire albums. I can't stand listening to radio either. That's insulting. D. 08-07-2003, 07:28 PM a friend of mine has made me like, 3 mix tapes and 2 mix CDs since i've known her and i discovered some of my favorite bands and songs through it. so, i say thumbs up to mix tapes/CDs. pale blue eyes 08-07-2003, 07:36 PM I like mixed CDs. My ex-boyfriend and I used to exchange them as gifts for each other when we had no money to get anything nice. My friend and I still exchange them so we could keep up with what the other one is listening to. sarasvati 08-07-2003, 09:43 PM Originally posted by Salem <img src="http://movieweb.com/movie/highfidelity/bw1.jpg"> hottttt. Lie 08-07-2003, 10:41 PM I've loved mixtapes since I was like ten, when I would tape stuff off the radio. I didn't even know they were called mixtapes. Injektilo 08-07-2003, 10:54 PM I make mixtapes (cds) for some of my friends, I give a little write out about why I like that song or why i'm including it, and they seem to really like them, so... i also trade mixtapes (cds) with another friend who has good taste in music, so it exposes me to some new stuff. so i like them. Mason R Butler 08-08-2003, 02:16 AM Making them makes me feel like I'm participating in some cliched indie cultural ritual. ZackZ 08-08-2003, 03:23 AM I don't like mixtapes. If you've never heard the song/band before, and then you listen to the full album later, it's kind of jarring. severin 08-08-2003, 04:05 AM Originally posted by Mason R Butler Making them makes me feel like I'm participating in some cliched indie cultural ritual. the only reason one needs, isn't it? i made a few mix md's for a nephew of mine, which he really seems to like. and it's a nice way to get the young kids away from mainstream radio.... sawdust restaurants 08-08-2003, 04:29 PM Originally posted by Mason R Butler Making them makes me feel like I'm participating in some cliched indie cultural ritual. Yeah, me too, but that doesn't stop me from obsessing over them so much. :-/ Mason R Butler 08-08-2003, 04:37 PM Maybe I'm just bitter. Everyone I make something like that for never reciprocates. I haven't gotten a mix in years and have been putting them together for fun since I was 14 and made an REM mix for a girl. I'm old. Fuck Mixtapes. sawdust restaurants 08-08-2003, 04:45 PM Hey, I'll make you a mix. bonsor 08-08-2003, 04:58 PM someone make me a mixtape. please. i don't know which door to take out of this dark, cold claustrophobic room i call my taste in music. and reccomend some neil finn, too. and frank zappa. sawdust restaurants 08-08-2003, 05:03 PM basically anything 70s that involves zappa is good, john and i'd make you one too, but i don't think our tastes are really compatible bonsor 08-08-2003, 05:09 PM Originally posted by sawdust restaurants and i'd make you one too, but i don't think our tastes are really compatible it doesn't matter. seriously. it doesn't at all. bonsor 08-08-2003, 05:12 PM and you'll have to be more specific. zappa released over 20 albums during the 70s. Mason R Butler 08-08-2003, 05:19 PM Originally posted by sawdust restaurants Hey, I'll make you a mix. Are you a pretty girl? Then it hardly counts, does it? Oh, who am I kidding, make me a mix. :) John, as far as Zappa goes, there's a lot of musical ground to cover. I would recommend starting with something like Hot Rats or Burnt Weenie Sandwich. |
