Bullet with Butterfly Wings
Zero
Reyngel 08-01-2003, 04:34 PM That performance had to be one of the worst sounding performances ever, lol. I saw that about a year ago, and cringed.
I like Bullet from that show. Its really tight and the song hadn't mutated into the wankery that it later became (not that its a bad thing, but its nice to hear it played the way it is on the album for once) I've never seen Zero.
bonsor 08-01-2003, 07:43 PM well, at this point in their careers they were so energetic that they couldn't handle it, which makes the bullet performance either the best or worst ones i've ever seen on SNL.

wtf??? i hought the bullet was AMAZING, and ive never seen the zero. what are you on?
Tessellation 08-02-2003, 01:04 AM the 1994(?) performance was much worse. Jimmy's drums sound...off during the 1996 appearance, no?
El Savior 08-02-2003, 10:04 AM jesus fucking wow
Junebug 08-02-2003, 11:33 AM I always love how Billy tries so hard to reach the lower "notes" in that version of Bullet...and I had no idea James was still so energetic at that time. If I remember right he was jumping around and everything during the song. Never saw Zero though. It was on just like a month ago on Comedy Central, strange.

it was weird, i could hear every instrument distinctly, and it make the song less fun to hear. No more of the "blend" i loved about their albums.
Mariner 08-03-2003, 12:26 PM I was always entertained on the SNL Bullet when James breaks a string and is furiously trying to fix it during the middle interlude, and Billy looks over at him while trying to sing the 'serious' interlude lyrics and nearly bursts out laughing.
paranoid 08-03-2003, 02:26 PM James guitar is really the only guitar you can hear in that mix.. i can't hear Billy at all.
Kimaira 51 08-04-2003, 12:44 PM Billy's singing was headache inducing in bullet. argh...
stumpycat 08-06-2003, 01:08 AM I have all three of the Pumpkins' SNL performances on tape (SD era, MCIS era, and Adore era), and honestly, none of them are all that great. They're always a bit fucked up, whether it's one of the instruments being slightly out-of-tune/sounding off, the song being rushed, an overly-screechy, nasally vocal delivery from Billy, or a washed-out, sloppy-sounding mix.

hahahaha-i never even noticed that before-very funny. James pulled it off somehow though.

XD, and I just thought it was just Billy laughing at the song.

he did that in the quiet picking interlude? you can't change a string in 30 seconds.
Vanila Coke Kid 01-03-2004, 01:36 PM Maybe he just did what he could then for the rest he just played on the bottom strings. You can actually see him fiddling with the strings and Billy trying not to laugh.
I saw a third performance, i saw the end so i didnt see what they played, but i remember Kenny Aronoff in there.(musta been adore era) Anyone know what they played?

I think it was perfect...
Ensoul 01-04-2004, 10:45 PM what was billy laughing at in bwbw? he was looking to the balconies and started cracking up during the middle of the song.
Vanila Coke Kid 01-05-2004, 11:59 AM He wus larfin at teh James Ih0rz
i have to see james pull this off...and i thought nothing could top playing fuck you twice as fast.
Clara Turleys Bible Challenge is also funny.

Definitely. Hardly any snare in the mix, and the bass drum is farty-sounding -- it sounds like the mic is resting right on the beater head.
Mood ring 01-05-2004, 06:03 PM i can't believe how tonally anal some of you are...what kind of fans are you?
I see a band at their zenith about ready to explode. History will view it as such and I doubt badly placed mics will be a footnote.

I think you're right, I haven't seen the video in years but if I recall correctly James just succeeds in getting the loose string the fuck out of his way and plays without it to finish the song.

hahahahaha.
the performances are BAD. they sound awful. get over it.
Mood ring 01-06-2004, 09:48 AM the fact the performances sound bad is irrelevant except for the fans who have nothing better to do but to pick apart the sound of one song from 8 years ago.
its the tonally anal freak fans who need to get over it, bucko.
omg mystery 01-06-2004, 06:25 PM Vanilla Coke Kid, you are a dumb ass.
lawson 01-06-2004, 08:45 PM this was the first time he unleashed his bald head and it was around halloween. i remember not knowing what to think of that and the eyeliner, but nevertheless i was head over heals with yet another sp album.
