when I first read this title I thought it said Melodic...

anyway, I only own Disintigration by the Cure, and a bunch of random Smiths mp3s, but based on disintegration I'd say robert smith. Though maybe melancholic isn't the right word.

Morrissey, yo.

Out of those four, Morrissey is the least likely to kill himself. By a long shot. And I don't know about melancholic, but Billy Corgan is definitely the saddest at this point.

The weird thing is I would rank them in the same order for my like for them and for their being less melancholy:

4. Corgan
3. Yorke
2. Smith
1. Morrissey

Oh, and Boycott Graceland, all the Smiths fans I know are fragile, pretty much suicidal, individuals, but they're also VERY nice and sensitive people :) (myself *******d :D ) so don't let that be a turn off.

yeah really. he may have disintegration, faith and pornography on him, but he's also got half of wild mood swings, wish, some songs on kiss me x3 and the head on the door that really rule him out. oh and the catepillar! tee hee! <3 smitty.

I won't vote for Thom Yorke. I think it's a bit too easy to call Yorke's voice just melancholic. Descibing his singing that way would be like describing SP as just loud.

You guys are all on crack.

I associate Morrissey's persona as a performer with fun and sarcasm more than anything else. Intentionally melodramatic, sure. But melancholic? I don't care what the majority of his nitwit fans think. He's the least brooding of any of the above because he overplays the depressed act with ridiculous thoroughness so as to belittle its actual importance. If Morrissey makes you want to kill yourself you're giving him way too much credit.
