Wow this song rules.

Does Billy play any of the solos?

The softer outro part is the best. I hope and think that is Billy.

firewall, the version thats all billy and kenny without iommi, is a hundred times better.

I thought it was pretty cool that billy maintained his ties with Kenny even after he started playing with jimmy again.

Well, the Firewall mix of the song was on the original FAEOMM 60 min tape that Billy gave out. That was in mid-2000, so I'd be more willing to guess that Black Oblivion was recorded early in 2000 or even late 1999 (at least Billy and Kenny's parts anyway. Iommi's stuff could have been added on as late as 2001, I suppose. When did the album come out?)

On a related note, I remember hearing that Billy played bass and rhythm guitar on this track in addition to the vocals. Don't know if any of the solos are his though.

everything you hear on firewall is billy except the drums which are kenny. so if you listen to both firewall then black oblivion, you can tell what iommi wrote and played.

However promising this cd seemed to me, because of all the guests (Brian May, Billy Corgan, Dave Grohl, Serj Tankian...), it was rather dissapointing. The songwriting is pretty damn boring, with every song in the same generic pentatonic key. I heard that before, and much better (RATM).

The song with Dave Grohl and Brian May, Goodbye Lament, was a highlight, though. That one was pretty cool.
