O.K, here's the problem. I've been to the reccomended sites to get the necessary tools to play, encode and decode flac files. I can get the files to play through winamp3 no problem, but with each and every frontend I've tried to use to decode the files I just get a system error when I open them. My guess is that some flac programs don't work well with winXP, as i have had similar problems with other programs before.

In short what I'm really asking is if anyone knows of a flac program for encoding/decoding that will definatly work on winXP or if anyone has had similar problems.

This one works on XP, your problem must be due to something else.

I get the same problem with that one, I guess something else on my computer is causing the problem. Thanks anyway.

Edit: Found a program that works for me, its called dBpowerAMP Music Converter. I downloaded that and the flac codec for it and can now change flacs to wavs and vice-versa. Anyone else who is having problems with other flac programs might want to check that out.

I did a little research on these formats, and though I now understand a little bit more about the decoding process, I was unable to find my real question. Which format compresses further?
