View Full Version : Does Anyone Here Like Zwan?
Hughzims 06-01-2003, 07:21 AM Hey Everyone!
Just wondered if anyone on the message board likes Zwans album. I got it the other day and though its pretty good. Just wondered.
cap'n jazz 06-01-2003, 08:19 AM Is that Mary, Star of the Vast Oceans?
evilpixiecat 06-01-2003, 08:58 AM Yes i really enjoy it.
I am at the age now where all my favourite bands are set in stone... I am devoted and wont linger-Zwan happens to be another band i have taken under my wing in the past few years...
Zwan is healthy for me...
My children will be brought up with The pumpkins and Cat Stevens among a few select others...
jamesey 06-01-2003, 10:37 AM i liked zwan when they were undergroud, i.e. the first 4 california shows they did. since then theyve grown to suck. if you want the crap they put out, you may as well buy third eye blind or everclear.
pumpkins for life of course.
ZephZero33 06-01-2003, 10:51 AM Does Zwan have that bald whiny singer B0lly COrgin?
Eulogy 06-01-2003, 11:59 AM I do.

So now that they aren't independent and signed to a major label it automatically equals suckage? that's interesting how that works.
aspecialkid 06-01-2003, 09:00 PM zwan is ok.

Frank N. Furter 06-02-2003, 02:50 PM I think MSOTS is ok, mainly because of the title track. Without that it would be pretty awful. But I have a feeling there is better stuff to come.
One thing that annoys me is how boring the other band members are, I paid extra money for the DVD with MSOTS, and it's got a load of bullshit 1 minute interviews where people talk uttter, utter SHIT. I don't find it funny that Paz is talking shit in Spanish, I don't find "OMG THE DIFFERENT INCARNATIONS OF ZWAN" deep at all... I find it really really bullshit and sad.
Travis Meekz 06-02-2003, 04:27 PM I do. I think they are better than what they've recorded though.
*Waits for next cd*
eraserhead 06-02-2003, 04:48 PM the songs are ok but the album sucks. they have so much potential but they arent using it.
Well, after the rendition of Spilled Milk last Saturday, I have to admit I like Zwan a whole lot more than before last Saturday.
Squashing Pineapples 06-02-2003, 06:57 PM no
Ghetto_Squirrel 06-02-2003, 07:13 PM Zwan blows ass. I'd rather subject myself to a Creed-Matchbox 20 marathon.

no, it has nothing to do with that. how could i possibly like the smashing pumpkins if that was true?
zwan has gone from good music to shit music.
Echorun 06-03-2003, 01:17 PM I love the rat in the cage song!

Rat in a cage song >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> MSOTS (Album)
King of Devious 06-04-2003, 12:31 AM i was so excited about zwan, and told all my friends how awesolme the pumpkins are, and how sweet zwan will be. I dragged my friends to concerts, and hyped up the new album coming out.
of course, when i finally got msots in the mail, i was so pissed. I just couldnt believe how bad it was.
I think there are 4 songs on msots that i like, the rest are terrible.
Zwan was a huge let down for me

i bet you have a thing for splinter.
Cassius 06-04-2003, 08:08 PM I like em, if you can look at them apart from the pumpkins they are pretty decent, and it is only their first album together.
Actually it was 'Honestly' that got me into the pumpkins in the first place..... I heard all the zwan hype and i saw the video a few times, didnt strike me as great but i downloaded a few pumpkins tracks and really loved them.
Now i totally love the pumpkins :D so i gotta thank zwan for not sucking that badly that i never gave em a chance :)

That’s absolutely ridiculous. Aside from the Djali stuff, the True Poets of Zwan / MSOTS Zwan is extremely similar in nature. In fact, the stuff off MSOTS is more based around guitar solos, hooks and riffs more so than what was played at the first four shows. The only song I personally miss from the early shows is Chrysanthemum. There isn’t much of a difference in style between the two as people make it out to be. It more of the excitement of those shows “Billy and Jimmy’s new band” that makes people think it was better. Musically, it stayed the same.
hoser 06-05-2003, 03:20 PM no too much.....but i will buy the cds go to the shows......and sit in line for 12hours...but i still need billy to write songs like he did before.....just too different.....from what expected.....i need stuff like machina demos, 88-89demos....great stuff....i need more of that
hoser:mad:
RopeyLopey 06-05-2003, 04:12 PM at first I didn't like the album that much except MSOTS, but now it's really growing on me.... I need happy songs these days, it makes me feel better...
BeautyOfTheDead 06-06-2003, 08:15 PM Yeah I like it.
I mean it's really good, but sometimes I feel I only like it because I feel obligated...
I know I'm not the only one either!!!

At least he's honest y'know. I go through phases where the Pumpkins bore me but I still listen to them 1hr a day. I don't feel normal if I don't.
severin 06-07-2003, 06:34 AM i love them live...everytime i'm at a show and a new song starts the adrenaline kicks in (except for settle down...i loathe this song). on the album...well, a few good songs, but nothing spectacular (apart from jesus,i / msots), the masterings total shit and so on....what really annoys me sometimes is, that one should think that a band with these members should be way more..."intellectual", i guess, than the pumpkins, but most of the stuff they bring out is mainly phrases....
so, i'm still going to be on 18 hour train trips and tape the shows, and i beg for the djali stuff to be good, but msots (the album) plus the singles that come from it will be utterly ignored by me..

I was really dissapointed in MSOTS. At least the title track kicks much arse.
The people in the band are so musically talented though that I am looking forward to future releases...only next time I won't just automatically buy the album(s) out of my Billy fandom I'll actually listen to the songs & read reviews first before purchasing / not purchasing the next release...I guess that's always a good idea :p
TheYellowDart 06-08-2003, 06:57 PM To me,(and i know this sounds kind of stupid and nearsighted) but zwan is too damn.......happy. I know SP and zwan are two separate bands, but i keep wanting a song like jellybelly or quiet or even X.Y.U(which will never happen) in a zwan album. I think the reason the pumpkins did so well was the fact that they were able to play loud and soft music and do it well. Zwan is missing a heavier, sharper sound. Maybe im comparing zwan with SP too much.

I saw an interview with billy on mtv2 just a coulple of weeks ago and he said they wanted to approach the metal in an natural fashion like, mellow rock - > hard rock -> metal perhaps? Im wondering how much of that may have been joking with the interviewer tho...... :erm
Perhaps in the same way that gish was kinda mellow. Then they moved on from there.
i dunno :) :)
Kill the Joy 06-11-2003, 06:52 AM like as in going to a therapy appointment? Just pop in Zwan like popping a bottle of xanax and paxil and your good to go. Happy and free like pretty little rainbows floating over your head.
::: dawsons creek theme song begins to play :::
ahh pretty little flowers.. happy happy joy joy....all is beautiful and right with the world in corgan rainbow land with stags hopping freely and shit.
avara 06-11-2003, 08:29 AM Good Things dont last forever..... (pumpkins)
Billy drop Zwan and do a solo FFS
Fox Mulder 06-13-2003, 04:58 AM Yeah I like the album, but it's hardly the Pumpkins is it?

I agree with you, SPFission. I hope they make heavier stuff, like "Spilled Milk". :nuke:
