View Full Version : Better version of Age of Innocense: EGO or Machina release?

I found a mix tape in my basement today that had the EGO release of Machina on it...I particularly enjoyed listening to the Sacred and Profane, with the drums tacked onto the beginning rather than the end, and the synthier version of AOI...for the moment, I'd say I like the EGO version of AOL better than the official release...which version does everyone here like better?

That sounds like it could be really cool. I wanna hear it.

I like the AOI better too! I like the synth wash at the end. Are these available other than in mp3?

I like the synth version of Age of Innocence, but the rock version on Machina blows it away.

"untitled" CD single. actually the EGO version is different than that. The EGO version is just an earlier mix of the album version. I like the album version of AOI better because of the effect that they put on Billy's voice in the quite part.

I don't think The Joker was implying that the EGO version and the Untitled version are the same... I think he was just stating that he likes the Untitled single version best. :)

For me, it's a tie between the album version and the Untitled single version. The EGO one is the worst of the three, in my opinion.

Yeah, I definitely like the EGO version of The Sacred + Profane more than the album version.

I'm not sure what it stands for, but I can tell you what it is... EGO is/was one of those mp3 piracy groups. They leaked out all of Machina in early January 2000. Clips had already been leaked out and a few full songs, but EGO was the first to leak the entire album. I think it was 192 kbps.

But it was from a promo of the album, so that's why those two tracks are slightly different.

There was a big post on here a while back, probably about a year ago, all about how exactly this happened. If anybody is curious, I think I still have the topic saved on my HD, so I could look it up. The guy who posted it was the one who originally had the promo. There was some drama about him copying it for a new friend that he barely knew, and the guy turned out to be dishonest about it blah blah blah. I think the story was that the guy approached Jeroen/NSPAA with it, but Jeroen didn't want to have anything to do with it... so the guy contacted EGO, and the rest is history. Maybe I can find the topic, or maybe the guy who originally posted it (I'm sorry, I don't remember who) is still here and can tell the story again. My memory is a bit foggy.

The reason why I'm mentioning all this is because I think I remember hearing that the alt. Sacred+Profane intro/outtro was just a hoax that the guy did, when he converted it to mp3. I'm not sure about that though. But I guess a lot of collectors have these promos... so can anyone here confirm or deny the S+P thing?

Yes, this disc does exist and, if memory serves me right, I believe that it was the channel separation at the start of TEG that was the hoax...done to see how far it would spread.

There were more than two songs that were different... I remember Glass + The Ghost Children and Imploding Voice as having slightly different mixes.

I think Glass and the Ghost Children has additional talking in the break and the guitars and drums sound different on the Imploding Voice.

I had asked about the story behind the release quite some time ago, though I didn't save the response. But from what I remember, your version sounds right Smiley.

If you do a search for "Pumpkin's ego," you get 400 results back, since every song is Billy's ego.

BAHAHAHAHA at this thread name.

EGO is a mp3 rip group found on IRC they have been around since 1999. LOL. dude it was not the EGO release it is just the ADVANCE version. If you pick up the Machina Advance you would hear that mix.

From the EGO release notes

߲۲ Established in 1999, EGO has already proven to the ۲ܲ۲
۲ scene to be the number one releasing group. Week after ۰
۲ week, EGO puts out the hottest releases in music. Our
۲ supporters expect EGO to bring them fresh releases
۲ months before the street date and also be the group to
۲ completely dominate the scene on Tuesday's. Our effort
۲ has given us undoubtly the finest sites, couriers, and
۲ rippers in the scene. Thanks everyone for your support!

Side note. I believe EGO stands just that. Their ego for getting rips out there before other groups

I just refered to it as the ego version because that's what the topic is about. I think most people know it's not some sort of demo. At least I hope not.
