View Full Version : A quasi-serious inquiry into female discussion of masturbation

Why on Earth do girls never talk about masturbation? It's not as if the men of the species don't realize you do it just as much as we do. You can get a bunch of guys in a group and it's not a taboo topic, but as soon as you put a girl in a remotely public setting--even if it's with some of her best friends--the topic just won't get breached.

I have my theories, as I'm sure all men do about female behavior, but they're always wrong, and I want to hear it straight from the mouth of y'all ladies: what's up with that?

Only one girl has ever really talked about it with me....and she didn't say much.

I've never witnissed girls discuss it with each other. Ever.

it always comes up at sleepovers, etc. they think its 'gross' right now. they always ask over and over if i really do do it. gah. they'll learn one day.

no, it's any room with a male present where the conversation will dwindle.. get a bunch of girls together and sex is all they want to talk about.

Yeah, but you guys are still "exploring your sexuality" and whatnot. Nothing's taboo at 13.

But when your'e 17, 18, 19 ... the conversation just dies. And I demand to know why.

Girls don't have to masturbate. They can get the real deal anytime they want. Besides you know when a girl crosses her leg when she is sitting down and shakes that leg? What do you think she is doing?

It's funny that you say that; the main impetus for this thread was one of my female friends saying how it's weird that it never comes up in a room full of girls, and girls only.

Still, details, plz.

Maybe they look at it as something they want to keep all their own. They don't want to share it with other people, 'cause then it will lose some of its specialness.

okay, maybe it's an age group thing? i'm talkin early 20's girls.
though, we're all very knowledgable and aware of our sexuality.. some girls just aren't. which is sad.

i'm not afraid to talk about masturbation. i know a lot of girls who are still virgins and they can't even admit that they have ever even done it once without blushing and giggling and getting all quiet about it.
maybe it's something that has to do with whether or not these girls have ever had sex. like ammy said- it's probably a maturity/sexuality issue. they aren't comfortable enough with themselves to admit that they may feel the desire to explore their own bodies.

um, to answer the initial question....girls don't talk about it simply because they don't do it. the few who do parade it around and have no inhibitions towards the subject (and rightfully so, imo). see previous posts for examples.

Only one person has really talked about it with me... which was a girl. Not long ago she was asking me if I did it because she was afraid to ask any of her female friends if they did too. So I said yes and that everyone else probably did as well, but that ended up making our relationship super awkward for a few weeks. Looking back, I was to blame too much and was acting a bit like an asshole, but I was just pissed she didn't do an internet search and go to a kids-oriented site like clitical.com (like I have done so many times).

Anyway, I shouldn't have taken it so seriously. I haven't talked about it since, but that's because it's never come up. If for some reason it does, I'd talk about it with a lot more comfort now I suppose.

Actually, I don't think I was being much of an ass. Just being really kind of antisocial and a bit avoidant with her afterwards. It was the summer so the only way I talked to her was over the internet, so I just would give brief, emotionless responses and avoid conversation when possible. I'm not quite sure why it was awkward. It just felt that way at the time. That's pretty much why I was pissed, just because the awkwardness messed up our existing friendship temporarily.

Yeah, it's as stupid as it sounds looking back.

Girls do talk about masturbation, just not huge groups, from what I can tell. My friends and I have talked about it before, but individually.

Plus, my best friend and I have decided that it seems a lot of girls would prefer to act like they don't do it.

I'd rather talk to guys about masturbation than I would girls. But I do talk about it with both.

My female friends and I talk about masturbation. *shrug* But then, I don't have that many female friends. I mean, we talk about sex more...but that's probably because, uh, masturbation really isn't all that interesting? I mean, how much is there to say about it, really?

Although we will talk about it with guys more, I've noticed...I think just 'cause we're curious about how they do it. "Doesn't it get really messy??" :p Mostly, I think we just make fun of the people who claim not to do it. Heh. And we all cheered our most staunchly, "Why would I masturbate when I could just have sex?" friend on when she bought her first vibrator. She claimed she was never going to use it...but then she started having a lot less sex, so apparently it's become her best friend. Heh.

I don't think I've ever not talked about it with any of my close friends. It's a topic of conversation just like a new movie or something.

From what I've experienced, girls at a certain age (18 or 19, maybe) do talk about masturbation and sex nonstop in large groups. After that maybe it just sort of dies out. Either that or they all become embarrassed about the degree of their previous enthusiasm and do everything in their power avoid ever being alone in a room with more than two other women ever again, like I've been doing for the past three years.

From what I've noticed girls actually talk quite a bit about guys talking about masturbation, and how gay it is. Just trying to be as informative as possible here. Of course, I'm a small percentage of these statistics. I could be waaaaaay off the mark.

Some girls just dont want to admit it... I don't know--- it could be the way that some people were raised (i.e. very conservative or religious or stifling parents, etc...) or some just don't talk about sexual things in conversation.

I'll talk about it... now... but a year ago, I wouldn't. I don't know- I mean, everyone knows that guys masterbate, but most girls are shy about it or deny it.

Just a social thing, I suppose.

Clearly, you don't hang out with the right kind of females.

Hmmm...I don't really have any explanations to offer. I guess masturbation isn't that big of a deal to girls...thus, it is not the first subject they think of to talk about...there are many other topics that take priority. I have talked about masturbation with some of my friends. With my other friends, it has just never come up...it is not a taboo subject...it's not like we are afraid to talk about it...there's just always something more pressing to discuss.

And I've never ever talked to any of my friends about that...girls or guys. The only time it has come up was a couple of months ago when my boyfriend was just "wondering if girls....." (i.e. me) but even then, it was a yes/no thing, and if he added anything after that it wasn't more than a couple of sentences.

I don't have very many female friends to begin with, but the subject doesn't come up very often. We talk about sex a lot, but the subject of masturbation just doesn't come up very often.

I have found males to be much more comfortable with talking about masturbation, but I think its just because they joke about it so damn much.

Like when someone says something thats complete bullshit, a guy will make the masturbation gesture. You don't see women making their masturbation gestures when one of her girlfriends say "I lost 10lbs last week, now I'm a size 2!", and if you did, I'm sure it would be a lot different than when males do it.

I have 3 female roommates, for some reason any time we all sit down at the dinner table together it turns into a sex discussion. They'll talk about fucking until the sun comes up, but when I say something about masturbation they're like "no way, I don't do that shit". It makes me wanna slap them for being so uptight. It's like, if you can have sex with a guy then why can't you do it with yourself? Oh well, they're missing out. They all have boyfriends far away so they're not getting ANY kind of pleasure. I don't have one and I'm not getting laid either but at least I've got my trusty hands!I've got a few other female friends that are more open to the idea that I can talk to.

i was living with three other girls for the past year almost. one of them is a virgin and we never discussed sexual things with her... the other two had plenty of sex which we talked about all the time, but they were very anti-masturbation.
however, after about six months, they both had bought vibrators and thanked me for the recommendation.

any female friend i have that talks to me about masturbation does it very very seldom. so yeah, i can vouch for whoever said "because they don't do it" and "because they don't have to."

and maybe not a lot of females talk about it BECAUSE it is taboo in the first place - think about it. there's even evidence in this thread that guys get turned on by women masturbating, so when women openly talk about it in the company of men there's this whole sexual tension thing going on which doesn't occur the other way around

it's just like if guys make jokes about being gay, it's silly innocent innuendo. if women make jokes about being gay, it's got Hot Lesbian Action undertones. somehow it seems to work the same with masturbation. girls talking about it is associated with Sexy Masturbation Porn. if guys talk about how often they masturbate they might as well be talking about how often they take a shit - guys masturbating is simply not something girls get turned on by. male masturbation porn probably doesn't exist (someone else find this out for me).

Unfortunately, i've seen it as a part of gay porn; i have evil friends.

To get back to a happier note; does anybody remember in some long-ago masturbation thread when some girl gave a description of something like how she usually waits to masturbate until she's excited enough for the, um, juices, to run from her, uh, juice factory down to her, uh, magic button?

mmm...
