So topic says it all. I lent my md out to some one in florida to tape the orlando show, so when i went to tape the philly show i borrowed a sony md from a friend. The md wouldnt allow for me to change recording levels. Here is the result, glad there were other tapers at the show..

hmm... doesnt sound like a gain issue... did you use the MD's mic in or line in... also... what mics did you use? did you use some sort of bass roll off? it sounds like an issue with a bass roll off, honestly.

I went line in becuase there was no mic in. I used this rig to tape with... DAB > DA-120F > MZ-R50. It cuts in and out to.. I listened to the first disc of it and it doesnt sound that bad, really really bassy though. So you may be right it might have been something with the bass roll off..

Depending on the type of Sony MD deck. You may have needed an attenuator cable. Sounds like a mass amount of brickwalling. Could be wrong though.

if zach made you a rolloff filter for SHARP line input at approx 120hz then that would give you approx 50hz rolloff into a SONY line input....which is not enough.

The line in automatically sets the levels on the sony. I've gone SBD or CSBmod>line in a bunch of times and never once had a problem. My friend uses my OKMs and my MZR-37 and gets great results. That definitely sounds like a problem with the mics. As for the idea of an attenuator, doesn't it have to be used Mic In?
