so how do YOU decide what/where songs go on mixes? it really depends on who for and what of, but is there any method to your madness? the only thing i always try to do is put the best song on second, bookmarked by the two songs im most confident my intended listener will enjoy. mmhmm.

now im going to have to go through all your tapes and see if that rings true. THANKS.
you know i have no method. i throw a bunch of songs on a cd and ship it off quick because if i think about it too much it'll never get done.

mixtape terrorism? one of my exgirlfriends used to leave like, 15 minutes of emptiness at the end of tapes she made. but i think it was more a reflection of her personality than an attempt at cruelty. thats the only thing i really like about cdrs over cassettes, i no longer feel compelled to fill the whole thing.

HA. how many of them do you still have? it may not ring true for the oldest ones, but it should for the last few years. at some point in time i stopped trying to figure out which songs you would like and just started making them for me. ;)

I generally try to compile a mix cd of songs that are in the same genre..
sort of...
If Im making a Heavy, Hard Rock Mix (or any other genre), i basically put songs I like from bands within that genre and then see how they add up next to each other via a winamp playlist and move em around till i think the CD would 'go with the flow'.
I also have a tendency to Edit songs in Cool Edit, because alot of em have alot of silence near the end or at the beginning, or are tracks that were meant to flow into another song's beginning and it bugs me if the tracks end oddly to the start of the next track.
FYI....Failure's 'Stuck on You' blends wonderfully with Qotsa's Lost Art of Keeping a Secret' when put in that order.
Im a dork When it comes to Mix Cds.

I try to put songs together that somehow fit together or keep a certain feeling going. To me there are just some songs that are perfect to start an album, or mix tape, and perfect ones to end them. To me...3rd Planet by Modest Mouse is one of the best opening songs on an album...when I make mix CDs for people...I like to start with that one.
