Best advice I got before I went to college (I went to DePaul, so I had to give you a hard time about Loyola) was:

Don't let your education interfere with your academics, or your academics interfere with your education.

Live it up while in college.....it definitely changes once you are done with school.

It really depends on what college within the university you are talking about. Our B school is miles ahead. Loyola's liberal arts program may be a little better.....I have friends that went to both, and I think that one of the schools is a little superior as far as job placement.

Nice use of Italics. ;)

Loyola has a far greater name recognition than DePaul...and when applying for grad school or a job, that matters a lot. Stop someone on the street in a state other than Illinois and ask them about DePaul University and they very likely aren't going to have any clue what you are talking about. Loyola, on the other hand, is nationally known and is known as being a good school.

I will repeat my statement. It depends on what college within the University that you are discussing. DePaul has one of the top Accounting programs in the nation. The B school is far superior to that of Loyola's. Stop people that work in business and ask them which school is known more. You are very likely to get a different answer than what you are stating above. Part of that is driven by the fact that DePaul's part-time grad school has been ranked in the top six for the past five to ten years.

I am not too worried about grad school. Grad school is based more so off of scores and experience. You college factors very little into the decision (again I am discussing B schools). And I had a job, along with all of my fellow peers, eight months before graduation.

Yes, true. And most people tend to go to Loyola for pre-med, pre-law, poli sci, history, philosophy, and theology (and their social work and criminal justice programs are pretty well respectable too). And I'm just talking from my experience. I'm not saying that I wouldn't have gotten the White House internships and gotten into NYU and whatnot if I had gone to DePaul...but, I know, judging from the reactions I got/get when I say Loyola of Chicago, that going to Loyola certainly didn't hurt me any. (And I had never even heard of DePaul until I moved Chicago. Whereas I've never encountered anyone who hadn't heard of Loyola and didn't nod approvingly when I said I went to Loyola.) *shrug* And I'm not saying that DePaul is a bad school. And yeah, you can say that scores and grades and whatnot count for more when applying to grad school, but it is absolutely foolish to think that where you went to school doesn't count/matter too.

Yeah, I am speaking from my experiences at DePaul, and through my interactions from recruiters for Big Four firms, and many of the other larger Fortune 100 companies in Chicago....you just don't see that many people from Loyola. From an outsiders perspective, Northern Illinois isn't a good school, but they have one of the best accounting programs in the state, and typically score as one of the nations best on the CPA. DePaul couldn't have been a better fit for me. I had a multiple internships beginning my freshman year (PwC, then Andersen, and now at D&T). I plan on applying to Harvard, Kellog, Wharton, and Stanford for my MBA in the next two to three years depending on my career path.

I never meant to imply that I thought DePaul was better academically....I think if you combined the two schools, it would form one powerhouse :) Of course, I was just trying to ignite the city school rivalries!

I am jealous of your NY location. I want to move there....but I am pretty situated in Chicago.

But anyways, Peabody.......once you get your fake...it is all over. And, it will happen sooner than you think.

Hahaha...exactly. :D

I'm no longer in NYC. :( Since I want to work in politics, I moved to DC after grad school at NYU. (And no, I'm not that old. I started school a year early, graduated from Loyola early, and went straight to grad school.)

Chicago is a great city to go to school in. Alex, you'll have to let me know if Hamilton's is still the happening place to be on Thursday nights and if the priests still attend the frat parties at the ADG house. :p

We are rebuilding. Solid recruiting class coming in next year. NCAA berth within two years.

Oh, and you guys don't even have a basketball coach?

So much for the tradition that Dean Smith created. The alumni money must be going to waster these days.

DePaul would mop the floor with Loyola.

I go to the University of Chicago, but not for long! I graduate in 2 months! :)

After this, with my 2.9, I will never be able to get into a good school unless I independently save the world or something equally impressive. I could have a 3.0 if I get all A's this quarter, but I doubt that will happen because I'm taking all sorts of killer math classes and I am retarded.
