does anyone have any interesting info to shed light on why d'arcy left the pumpkins?
i remember back in april 99, someone was at the pittsburgh show and talked to d'arcy or something, who told them that she was quitting. something about billy always messing everything up or something.

i dont remember specifically but can anyone add anything to this?

thanks

Kevin

I remember reading that but the only thing that stuck in my head was she thought the music was "too agressive and angry" and thought everyone in the band were a bunch of jerks. Gooch summed it up in the documentary as "She's stubborn"

I talked to her...though I might not be the person you are thinking of. Some of the things she said were that she wasn't having fun anymore and that Billy was taking things too seriously. (probably didn't like the machina stuff...the ruse and concept, the aproach to the end of the band...blah,blah,blah)

Like she said that Billy screwed-up during the show and was like "sorry that wasn't very professional" and she was like who cares....I guess they even got into a somewhat of a verbal fight on stage that night. Also the crowd was screaming for them to do Daydream but Billy said that D'Arcy doesn't like to sing and she said that that was b.s. and she wanted to.

She said that James was always in a rush to leave. They'd get to a new town and James couldn't wait for it to be over. He even was bugging her to get in the tour bus while she was talking to us.

She didn't mention anything about Jimmy that I heard.

She said that (on April 17th) that if things didn't change that she was going to leave...almost maybe like she already knew and was trying to brace us, cause we were all like no no, but she had sort of a sighful look, didn't really try being optimistic. I think I heard that someone at one of the later shows (Pheonix maybe?) said they talked to her and she mentioned quiting again?? maybe...as far as I know though the Pittsburgh show is when she first mentioned it (figures they come to Pittsburgh like twice) and this was probably before a lot of the album was done so if tensions were already building maybe this is where the crack comes in??...

(my opinion)
Overall I think she didn't like machina, I think she wanted to have more fun, and I think Billy was getting kinda stressed with his plans of orchestrating machina and ending the band, and over all the band was kindof disunified because of it. He probably wasn't taking her complaints seriously enough till it was too late. And then when she said she was leaving for good I think he probably really tried to get her to stay but she wouldn't and I think that this hurt him so much not having the original band together at the end, and how it looked of not being able to keep a steady line up...and then whatever the the drug thing might have been...so that core of the relationship stuff that he said on "Full Circle", I think she totally let him down, and he let her down too...so much so that she couldn't stand to be in the band and go on the huge tour, and everything. Remember James saying maybe in "Full Circle" again or maybe the "Graceful Swans of Never" that she just couldn't be in the band anymore, it wasn't good for her health, that it was the best thing for her.

Its sad, she was really really nice, warm and easy to talk to.
Also when you saw them during the Adore era they all seemed to get along real well. And she always spoke real highly of Billy's music ya'know, like she was a fan. I think things were a lot more complicated than just crack.

That's so weird . . . on the recording of the April 10th show in Detroit, she does most of the talking and even says how much fun she's having. She changed her mind pretty quickly I guess . . .
