There seem to be a lot of bands around here that I have never heard of. I need some fresh music.

Recommend me some good music that I probably haven't heard (non-mainstream).

funny how someone asks for recommendations, and everybody recommends those same 20 indie bands that gets mentioned everywhere.

Maybe you should try these instead:

The Bonzo Dog Band
Gogol Bordello
Wedding Present
The Mekons
Television Personalities
Heavy Vegetable

SINCE THEY ARE GONNA BE A HOT TICKET IN THE INTERNET DOWNLOAD SENSE FOR ABOUT A WEEK BEFORE EVERYONE STOPS GIVING A SHIT AND MOVES ON TO THE NEXT HOT THING...
Califone

these are all kind of obvious, but if you haven't heard them you should check them out. I'd rather you hear the really amazing but well known over the obscure.

Can (Get Tago Mago first... then if you like them at all, Future Days Second, Monster Movie Third, Ege Bamyasi Fourth)
The Birthday Party (the hits collection will do)
Drive Like Jehu (Yank Crime re-issue)
Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica
Echo and the Bunnymen - Crocodiles or Ocean Rain
Giddy Motors - Make It Pop
The Fire Show - Saint the Fire Show
Anything by James Chance or the Contortions (Everyone should have the No New York compilation at the very least)
All of the Liars Ep's

i guess that's too much, sorry.

i think you're the only person on this board who has this besides me. i like it quite a bit. it's like The Birthday Party mixed with Fugazi, or something.

I love the Birthday Party. I showed it to all my friends and one of them made a really lame comparison to Busta Rhymes.

Wow that was a perfect summation. I like the way they speak in the spoke parts. Heh, that sounded dumb. I always say that part.

Try out some Peter Hammill. Amon Duul II, Ash-Ra Tempel and Magma are also good. Nothing recent, but still good.

You're so indie! I bow to your indie leetness.

Anyway, I'm afraid I have to second BLB here. Get No New York. And then get Alien Soundtracks by Chrome.
